After 60 days of incubation on the beach at W Retreat Bali, 239 green turtle eggs have hatched and been released back into the Indian Ocean.
Over the last three months six large green turtles have visited Seminyak Beach to lay their eggs. W Retreat Bali consulted local wildlife groups and were advised to guard the eggs to ensure they weren’t disturbed and once hatched release them back into the sea.
“There has been a strong effort to educate the villagers to protect and conserve these endangered animals. We wanted to do our part to shelter the turtle eggs and play a big role in helping to regenerate the population in Indonesia”, commented Craig Seaward, general manager of the W Retreat Bali.
There are still three areas where Green Turtles have laid eggs which the W Retreat is protecting. The last turtle release was shortly after they opened in March 2011 when 49 Green Turtles were released in August that year.
Exclusively located in the beachfront enclave of Seminyak, W Retreat Bali is Asia Pacific’s third W Retreat.
