The Hackett Autumn/Winter 2013 Collection
Hackett has created a menswear collection which explores the many facets of the quintessentially British well-dressed gent for the autumn/winter 2013 season. Incorporating design elements that blend heritage with modernity and reference a wealth of characters that make up the Hackett look, the collection is divided into five main themes or looks. Taking in the eccentricities of the British artist to the recognisable style of the academic, the utilitarian uniform of the military daredevil and the energy of the racing driver, the Hackett range consists of impeccable tailoring, luxurious casual wear, technically advanced performance wear and a wealth of accessories to go with every look.
The Social Club
The old boys’ network meets the social network in a story that merges the competitive spirit of the modern entrepreneur with classic campus style. Contemporary touches are added to traditional design, tweed jackets are paired with waxed cotton gilets or worn under down filled jackets while checks and Argyle patterns are brought up to date in bright colours (the muted navy, off white and heather base tones of the story are contrasted with rich tones of purple, forest green, port and gold). Felted wool duffel coats, tactile fine gauge sweaters and cotton chinos exemplify vintage academic style and the campus lifestyle is also reinforced in the streamlined and simplified collegiate crests.
The Arts Club Hunt
The elegance and eccentricity of the art world is epitomised in a story that blends classic style with English idiosyncrasies. Taking the lifestyle of the arts club dweller with hints of country living as a starting point, The Arts Club Hunt casts a different light on traditional muted separates by injecting flashes of bright colour – new life is breathed into tailored tweed jackets and waxed cotton outerwear when paired with brightly coloured waistcoats or unexpectedly flamboyant linings. Shades of spruce green, midnight navy and auburn are punctuated with flashes of jewel tones including blood orange and scarlet.
The Last English Hero
Authentic ‘action’ heroes and military uniforms have inspired a story set in a fictional officers’ mess. The class and style of the roguish daredevil is evident in menswear that references traditional style details and reinterprets them for the 21st century. The classic trench and parka styles are updated in a combination of luxury and performance fabrications in slimmer silhouettes. Air force blue, surplus green, rust and sand form the basis of the colour palette in patterns from bold to discreet with striking diamond and chessboard quilting on outerwear through to micro jacquard sweaters. Buttery soft leather is a key ingredient to the range; as resilient as it is luxurious and, much like the inspiration for the story, an element which just improves with age, the blouson and shearling jackets will become wardrobe staples and sartorial heirlooms.
Hackett Mayfair Townhouse
The luxury Hackett Mayfair line is given a refreshing new feel this season. Hackett has retained all the properties that have made the line so popular with discerning customers, while introducing a number of subtle changes. The design references are unmistakably sixties in style but are given a modern makeover through sleeker silhouettes, slimmer design details and new fabrications. A softer shoulder shape gives the silhouette a slightly gentler appearance and means that the suit no longer has to be worn as a whole outfit. Always elegant, jackets can now be mixed with contrasting trousers while the more formal shirt and tie combination can be dispensed with in favour of a more casual fine knit silk mix sweater or cashmere polo shirt. Pattern is a key ingredient to the story with checks and tartans in subdued shades of grey, blue and brown.
Aston Martin Racing
Hackett’s long-standing collaboration with Aston Martin Racing has been developed this season into a story designed for a complete look. Sleeker and more sophisticated, AMR combines the best of Hackett style with the cutting edge of performance and manufacturing technology. Branding is cleaner and more concise – images of iconic racing drivers are brought to life and updated with separates created from fabrics woven with metal thread and fibre glass optic nylon alongside luxury fabrics and the look is completed with a wide range of accessories from luggage to smaller leather goods. The approach is technical and functional but with a refreshed sense of luxury and sophistication in a simple colour palette of black with bold primary and secondary colours.
With more stories, products and a focus on creating ‘head to toe’ looks this season, Hackett’s Autumn/Winter 2013 collection encapsulates the very best of British. Whether it is tailoring, casualwear, performance wear or accessories, Hackett is a one-stop shop for all modern gentlemen regardless of their sartorial needs.
