Ong Chin Huat gets to witness first-hand the sharp and crisp acoustics of Bang & Olufsen’s new BeoLab 50 and BeoSound Shape loudspeakers and discovers whether you get more bang for your buck from the brand in 2018
Relaunching their store in The Gardens Mall Kuala Lumpur, purveyor of top-notch audio and visual equipment Bang & Olufsen Malaysia and took the opportunity to introduce two brand new revolutionary items to their fans and customers – the BeoLab 50 floor sound speakers and BeoSound Shape, wall-mounted wireless speakers.
Occupying 1,400 square feet and complete with a state-of-the-art BeoLiving room which is fitted with the BeoVision 4 -85” 3D TV giant, the Bang & Olufsen flagship showroom is the perfect place to exhibit the best of this Danish hi-tech audiovisual company has to offer in terms of its design excellence and craftsmanship with collaborations with designers like Jacob Jensen and David Lewis to develop iconic and innovative audiovisual products.
Bang & Olufsen Head of Sales for South East Asia, Soren Kokholm paid tribute to the brand’s growing presence in the country. “Malaysia is a key market for Bang & Olufsen. We are very supportive of its growth and are keen to see it develop. Our products have a timeless appeal for our brand enthusiasts here in Malaysia, in terms of design aesthetic and function, crafted with a high regard for consumers’ pleasures.”

Making its debut was the BeoLab 50, a top of the line loudspeaker which combines innovative audio technology, sleek design aesthetics and exquisite craftsmanship. These floor-standing speakers are designed to pump out unparalleled sound with outstanding performance. Standing at a height of 103.6 cm and measuring just 45.5 cm at its widest, the BeoLab 50 has a unique acoustic lens feature which appears when the speakers are switched on. This motorised lens will automatically adjust when the Beam Width Control is applied, allowing the listener the option of either the sweet spot concentration of sound for a single person or a wider sound dispersion when there are several people in the room.
The BeoSound Shape, on the other hand, is a wall-mounted wireless speaker system which incorporates a design-savvy element and allows the listener to have a customized set of loudspeakers. Based on a modular tile comprising eight to 40 tiles, each tile serves a function either as a speaker, amplifier or damper and can be placed in various combinations depending on the desired effect.
