22 Ships, the much-loved Spanish restaurant helmed by Chef Antonio Oviedo, is now officially open at its new location inside PMQ Central on Staunton Street, SoHo.

One of Hong Kong’s best-loved restaurants, 22 Ships, has reopened at its new home. The new location in PMQ Central, designed by the JIA Group, has been inspired by Spanish bodegas and traditional eateries and features three dining areas, a private room, and an outdoor terrace, giving it an expanded capacity of 60 guests. Inside, it boasts a rustic and somewhat retro design that creates a cool and relaxed feel, making it ideal for drinks and nibbles.

JIA Group founder Yenn Wong said, “This new and much-expanded location is perfect for big groups and parties with reservations. It is a space where guests can unwind, enjoy drinks, and socialise over multi-Spanish regional dishes, where they will enjoy the authentic Spanish culinary culture right here in the heart of Hong Kong.”

The Spanish Flavours & Premium Ingredients at 22 Ships
The new 22 Ships menu (40 dishes) includes a range of multi-regional dishes with up to 12 new dishes on the expanded menu. New to the menu is Marmitako, featuring Spanish mackerel and red pepper sofrito, and Txuleta of Iberico pork ribs with Romesco sauce and leeks; each dish is a testament to the artistry of Spanish cuisine.

Also on the menu are Oyster Salpicon dressed in a traditional vinaigrette, decadent Uni Toast with creamy sea urchin and rusa (potato) salad, Carabineros XXL, and an authentic Spanish large red prawn paella perfect for sharing among groups.

Other signature dishes not to be missed include the “Cochinillo” Segovian Roasted Suckling Pig served with apple and vanilla and the melting, dry-aged Spanish Rubia Gallega. The culinary journey continues with Pulpo Canario, grilled octopus with mojo sauce, and a sweet ending of Chef Antonio’s classic Burnt Basque Cheesecake with smoked Idiazabal cheese.

All ingredients used at 22 Ships are of the highest possible quality and are sourced directly from small-scale producers in Spain where possible.

Examples include the rare Arbequina Olive Oil from Castillo de Canena in Andalusia, whose olive-producing history dates back to 1780. Castillo de Canena is known particularly for its commitment to sustainable development, which is seen in the generation of photovoltaic energy on-site to mitigate soil erosion and preserve autochthonous vegetation.

Other premium Spanish ingredients include the deep-sea Carabinero, which is known for its jumbo size and striking colour; Monte Enebro, a cheese handmade in Valle del Tiétar, Ávila, Spain, by legendary cheese maker Rafael Báez and his daughters Paloma and María Jesús.

The Báez make goat’s milk cheese from pasteurised milk and then inoculate the logs with the Roquefort mol. There is also an excellent selection of Iberico Ham from Spanish regions, such as Jamon Pedro Domenec in Jabugo or Joselito cold cuts from Guijuelo.

The expanded Beverage Program at 22 Ships
The restaurant offers a comprehensive selection of beverages hand-picked by Chef Antonio and his team. The selection strictly focuses on Spanish wines, with prices by the bottle ranging from HK$418 to HK$3998.

There are approximately fifty Spanish wines, which range from Reserva to Gran Reserva. Highlights include the Tempranillo, Viña Tondonia, and Lopez de Heredia Rioja 2011, from the historic Spanish winery in Haro. Another gem is the Alion Vega Sicilia, Ribera Del Duero 2016 (HK$1,780), a vintage celebrated for its fresh and elegant character, marking a memorable year in Alion’s history.

There is a decent selection of Spanish social drinks on offer, which includes sangrias, artisanal beers, and vermouth-based cocktails such as the Marianito (HK$98), Campari and orange soda, and Rebujito (HK$88), crafted with apple and mint soda. Supplementing these are in-house liquors such as Patxaran and Canary Honey Rum and signature cocktails like the Ron Miel Sour (HK$98), made with lemon and egg white.

22 Ships is currently open Tuesday through Sunday for dinner only and will continue its “no service charge” policy. Reservations can be made via the SevenRooms platform.
