Writing and Wild Swimming Retreat:
Hosted by Doon Mackichan – 26th-30th September

For those who crave adventure and creativity, deep dive into Loch Rannoch Hotel this September with the new Estate Wild Swimming & Writing retreat, created with Travel Matters. Hosted by British actress, comedian and writer Doon Mackichan, the five-day programme embraces serenity, kicking off each morning with a cool swim in Loch Rannoch followed by journaling workshops.

The lit fireplace in the Whisky Bar

In the evening, guests can unwind in the hotel’s fireside lounge with a glass of Whisky from the bar. Surrounded by the gorgeous greenery of Scotland, guests are encouraged to ditch their phones, reconnect with nature, and be open-minded. The inspiring setting of the highlands, the incredible physical and mental benefits of cold-water immersion, and one-on-one sessions with Doon work to free the mind, letting inspired words flow directly onto the pages.

Reach New Heights:
Indoor & Outdoor Climbing

Gaining popularity following its introduction to the Olympics is climbing, and Loch Rannoch invites guests to embrace this thrilling and often physically demanding sport. Get ready to be pushed to new heights and tackle the indoor 6-meter climbing wall made to resemble the local Munro” Schiehallion”, a perfect introduction to the sport.

On brighter days, live life on the edge, step outside and climb the roped hillside quarry face. Strap in and glide over the rocks and beyond.

Try Something New:
Fishing, Kayaking, SUP

Loch Rannoch Hotel invites water lovers to try something new this year. Local ghillie Gordon Brown leads an enthralling fishing experience for trout, pike and arctic char whilst recounting stories of years past on the Loch. Those looking for a more isolated experience can rent sit-on-top fishing kayaks and get lost in the sounds and waves of the water.

Alternatively, use the hotel’s paddleboards and kayaks to discover the Loch’s many beautiful sandy beaches, or book a guided kayak tour for a truly personalised experience.

Just Keep Moving:
Hiking in the Highlands

Embark on an adventure following one of the hotel’s many hiking routes. Start with a gentle 2-hour hike up the neighbouring peak, Craig Varr, walking directly from the hotel and boasting breathtaking vistas overlooking Loch Rannoch. Take a long hike from Glen to Glen over the famous local hill-scape before retreating to the hotel bar for a well-deserved afternoon tea by the log-burning fire.

Beautiful thick green moss covering the stone walls

For thrill-seekers craving a challenge, the 2-3 hour hike up Schiehallion awaits. But tread carefully around the ‘Fairy Mountain’—legend has it, magic and mystery lurk within its peaks, and all is not what it seems.

Cycling Holidays:
‘The Loop’ and The Tearoom

With the Olympics well underway, bike enthusiasts can create their own cycling circuit on an electric or regular bike. Known to the lucky locals, the Loch Rannoch ‘Loop’ provides a stunning yet achievable 25-mile cycling route around the Loch. Expect four different seasons to come and go whilst soaking in breathtaking views and white sandy beaches.

Alternatively, guests can take a different turn and cycle the 18-mile route to the Rannoch Station Tearoom, which is across the Rannoch Moor, which stretches to Glencoe. There, they can enjoy an array of cakes, scones, and tea.

The second most remote station in the UK, the Tearoom welcomes customers into its cosy shelter before the onward journey back home. Other trails include the Black Wood of Rannoch and routes further afield in Blair Atholl, Glen Lyon, Pitlochry and Aberfeldy.

Loch Rannoch School of Adventure:
Gym, Badminton, Squash

Located at the hotel’s Marina, the Loch Rannoch School of Adventure offers endless activities for families and friends to enjoy. In addition to cycling, fishing, wild swimming, and climbing, guests can make the most of the hotel gym, which has stunning views overlooking the Loch.
