The Consorzio del Prosciutto di Parma has announced the re-election of Alessandro Utini as President. The appointment was confirmed by the board of the Parma Ham Producers Association on June 4, 2024. Utini’s leadership began in July 2021 and will continue for another three years. New elected Vice Presidents Gaia Baiocchi and Giorgia Capanna will join him.
Utini, the CEO of Furlotti Group (which includes Furlotti Prosciutti and Salumificio Furlotti), has extensive experience in the cured meats industry. He is also a partner and CEO of Prosciuttificio Tre Stelle and Fratelli Tanzi, known for its production and slicing of cured meats.
He was instrumental in modernising his family’s business by introducing multiple technologies. With over 20 years on the Consorzio board, including past roles as President and Vice President, his re-election reaffirms his dedication to the Parma Ham brand.
“I am honoured and excited to continue leading the Consorzio for another term,” Utini said. “Together with my esteemed colleagues on the board, we will define our strategic goals for the coming years. We face a complex historical period with significant challenges in our industry. Now, more than ever, unity among producers is crucial as we strive towards common objectives. The dedication of our members has been the cornerstone of our association for over sixty years.”
In his second term, Utini will continue to prioritise sustainability. “We are dedicated to reinforcing our responsibility towards the planet and future generations, relying heavily on scientific research. We are nearing the completion of a project with the Polytechnic University of Milan, which involves calculating our industry’s ecological footprint. Our companies are voluntarily engaging in the Made Green in Italy program and developing software to optimise environmental performance in the context of ecological transition.”
Under Utini’s leadership, the Parma ham industry has flourished, boasting a production volume of 850 million euros. The sector includes 3,000 employees in production facilities in the Parma region and 50,000 employees across the entire sector.
The Consorzio del Prosciutto di Parma stated that it looks forward to continued success and innovation under Utini’s capable leadership.
