Our Asia-based luxury lifestyle writer, Ong Chin Huat, heads into Malaysia’s vibrant capital to sample the exciting new dishes in one of Kuala Lumpur’s most beloved cafes, Dôme KLCC On-The Park which has moved to a brand new spacious location.
When you think of Malaysia, images of sandy beaches, tropical foliage, diverse cultures and, of course, food are conjured up in the mind. It is the food we are focusing on in this feature as Malaysia is frequently acknowledged as being one of the best places in the world for gourmands to visit, and one of its most iconic eateries is Dôme KLCC On-The-Park which sits within the heart of the country’s capital.
With a brand new location in Suria KLCC, this beloved Malaysian café has recently reopened with a larger space and a refreshed décor facing the iconic water fountains and verdant KLCC park. The all-new Dôme KLCC On-The-Park now boasts a spacious 4,212 square foot locale right around the corner from its previous location.
Having pioneered coffee culture in Malaysia some twenty-six years ago, Dôme Café has come a long way since it first opened its doors. With its new look and prime location, Dôme KLCC On-The-Park offers both indoor and, more importantly, outdoor dining for those who prefer to sit in an open-air patio, shaded from the sun yet able to enjoy the relaxing views of KL’s cityscape.
For those who prefer sitting inside, glass windows and the open concept design allow plenty of sunlight, while the cool air-conditioning provides welcomed relief from the tropical heat.
Popular with locals and international visitors alike, Dôme Café has also recently introduced several new dishes on its menu. Inspired by cuisine around the world, the new dishes will appeal to those who may like lighter and healthier food and those who prefer heartier fare.
The Dôme Salad (above) is a refreshing treat and nice appetiser, made from a mix of lettuce, capsicum and cucumber balanced with fried Lebanese bread and lemon dressing.
The Hummus (above), on the other hand, made with ground chickpeas, tahini, black olives and olive oil and served with Lebanese bread is another alternative to start a meal. Dôme’s K-Pop Crispy Chicken, inspired by Korean cuisine, has succulent fried chicken wings and drumettes coated in sticky sauce and sprinkled with nutty sesame seeds.
It is one of their most popular dishes and is accompanied by a Korean sweet sauce and tangy pickle or a hot and spicy sauce. It can be served as a snack or main course with rice.
The Falafel Wrap is perfect for those who are vegetarian and want a lighter lunch. Pita bread is stuffed with fried ground chickpea patties and filled with gherkin, tomatoes and a yoghurt sauce. Crispy Fried Chicken Sandwich is another option where juicy fried chicken is combined with melted cheese in-between perfected toasted buns.
The Mediterranean Chicken Pita stuffed with tomatoes, onions and cheese is served with toasted Lebanese bread and fries is the ultimate comfort food; while the pièce de résistance is Dôme’s Wagyu Burger (below) – a tender and juicy Wagyu beef patty is placed between toasted buns and garnished with all the trimmings such as pickles, fresh tomatoes, crisp onions, mustard and ketchup with a side of fries.
In addition to these seven new offerings, popular dishes such as Nasi Lemak, Chicken Curry Puff and Samosas, and perennial favourites like the Chicken Pie, Fish & Chips, Club Sandwich, various Pasta dishes and Pizzas as well as its All Day Big Breakfast are also available.
Finally, Dôme new signature drink, the Honeycomb Goldrush Espreski, a delicious ice-blended concoction of espresso, fresh milk, Cadbury Crunchie and Nuts, chocolate and vanilla ice-cream topped with whipped cream and sprinkled with chocolate powder is de rigueur for coffee lovers and connoisseurs. Miss it at your peril!
