As a keen diver, I know having the right watch is paramount. Divers watches for men are ‘ten a penny’, but there’s far less choice for women. Thankfully, Alpina watches are here to address this imbalance and their latest release, the Alpina Seastrong Diver Comtesse does this with style.
Alpina’s Seastrong Diver Comtesse is a diving watch exclusively for women, so as much as I can admire it, it won’t be something I will purchase for myself. But certainly, I would consider buying for a female family member. It stands out as beautiful jewellery that doesn’t have to be worn diving. Luxury looks at a price that is not out of the realms of most people.
The first ladies’ Divers watch produced by Alpina; the Seastrong Diver was born from merging the male Diver watch with the Sporty, feminine Comtesse range. Although many watch companies have been hesitant when it comes to creating diving watches for women, Alpina is different.
The Company has a strong tradition of water sports watches designed for women, producing their first such model some sixty years ago. Their latest watch brings the Seastrong Diver Comtesse to the surface, into the 21st century.
Solidly built it is designed to plumb the depths of the seas, and not just carry the word Diver. Guaranteed down to 300 metres for water resistance, with screw-down case back and crown, the hands are luminescent for easy reading in low light—a vital requirement when calculating time underwater.
The Seastrong Diver Comtesse retains its feminine lines though, also keeping slim and petite at just 34mm in diameter.
The quartz mechanism allows perfect timekeeping, accurate for up to four years. The date is displayed at 3 pm position, and essential with heavy use it is scratch resistant.
Alpina offers four different variations, three steel or rubber straps and, even more excitingly, mother-of-pearl dials (white or blue) revealing iridescent reflections reminiscent of the surface of the sea.
Alpina DNA is evident through the Brands iconic red triangle on the second-hand counterbalance, as well as at 12 o’clock on the unidirectional bezel and on the dial. On the case back, you’ll find an engraving specific to Alpina diving watches, incorporating Alpine peaks and the trident of the deep sea.
A beautiful timepiece the Seastrong Diver Comtesse Quartz is practical, affordable and desirable. I think any lady would be happy to wear one.
Prices for the models start from £809, and more information can be found at alpinawatches.com/collections/comtesse.
