Known for its culinary offerings, Anantara Veli Maldives Resort is upping its gourmet game with a stellar line-up of British-born Michelin-Starred chefs who will be visiting the resort to cook exclusive fine dining dinners for guests.
Kick-starting earlier this August with Gary Foulkes of the one-Michelin stared Angler restaurant in London, who plated a four-foot Wahoo which he caught on a fishing trip, the series continues with Steve Lancaster on 29 September. Originally from Devon, Steve heads up at the Michelin-starred Poise in Singapore.
On 18 October, guests at Anantara Veli Maldives Resort will be tasting the culinary creations of Lewis Barker, who leads the kitchen at Michelin-starred Sommer, also in Singapore.
The exclusive dinners serving up to eight guests at a time are held in the atmospheric wine cellar of Anantara Veli’s Japanese restaurant, Origami, surrounded by 450 bottles of the finest international wines.
On each of their evenings, Steve and Lewis will be teaming up with the resort’s culinary team, led by Executive Chef Francis Purification.
The evenings will start with cocktails and canapés before embarking on an unforgettable dining experience using fresh seasonal and locally sourced ingredients from the Maldives. Following the meal, gourmands will enjoy after-dinner drinks with the chefs.
Guests will also have the chance to join an exclusive cooking class with Steve or Lewis the day before their dinners, held in the Chef’s Garden and accompanied by Chef Francis.
Steve started in the kitchen early as a teenager and has built up an impressive resume at Michelin-starred establishments like The Fat Duck, Oaxen Krog by Magnus Ek in Stockholm and Saint Pierre in Singapore, which he helped earn its second Michelin star in 2019.
Now at Poise in Singapore, Chef Steve is making a name for himself by reinventing European and Nordic classics with clever and creative combinations and layering of textures and flavours.
Cooking professionally for the past 12 years at some of the most lauded restaurants in the UK, Australia and Singapore, Lewis is immersing himself in the farm-to-table ethos of contemporary cuisine, including at two well-known Australian restaurants, Vue de Monde in Melbourne and Quay in Sydney.
Lewis’ restaurant in Singapore, Sommer, showcases a personal approach to modern European cuisine, focusing on flavour and seasonality with respect to the ingredients of each dish.
Following Steve and Lewis’ dinners at Anantara Veli Maldives Resort in September and October, two other British chef greats will be making an appearance at the resort throughout the rest of 2023.
Anantara Veli is a luxury, adults-only resort in the South Male Atoll, 30 minutes speed boat ride from Male International Airport. The resort recently reopened after a complete redesign by the New York-based designer Yuji Yamazaki. A stay at Anantara Veli starts from USD 840 per night.
