Today, Arlo Hotels has pulled back the curtain in Brooklyn to reveal “Subtle Reminders”, a large-scale 20-by-23-foot mural located below the iconic Water Tower at Arlo Williamsburg by the internationally recognised Los Angeles artist ThankYouX.
Arlo Hotels, the independent boutique lifestyle hotel brand with properties in Manhattan, Chicago and Miami, will be making its entry into Brooklyn later this year with the opening of Arlo Williamsburg. The property will open at the site of the former Williamsburg Hotel.
Although the opening doesn’t officially take place until Autumn/Fall, the group is already hard at work and has added the brand’s creative and artistic trademark to the hotel’s famous Water Tower, home to some of New York City’s hottest events and parties.
The hotel partnered with the artist and painter, ThankYouX and gives Brooklynites and New Yorkers a taste of what’s to come as the Arlo brand makes its way into the borough.
The mural is the first by ThankYouX since 2021 and involved the L.A.-based artist scaling the brick wall below the iconic tower to create the 20-by-23-foot mural, which has been called “Subtle Reminders.”
The mural features ThankYouX’s signature geometric cubes with vibrant abstract colour tones that perfectly illuminate the hotel pool and NYC skyline.
The piece draws inspiration from the panoramic views atop the hotel: a breathtaking, all-encompassing sunset; the extensive rooftops blending into the horizon; the mighty East River; and beyond, stretching as far as the eye can see.
ThankYouX’s latest piece is an extension of one of Arlo Hotels’ three main brand pillars – Discovery – by bringing in elements of surprises, unexpected moments of delight and exceptional experiences to each guest’s stay, whether through music, wellness events, signature fortune cookies (cleverly placed for guests’ arrival) or QR art in the rooms featuring local places to visit with discounts for Arlo guests.
It isn’t the first time ThankYouX has worked with the boutique lifestyle brand. In the winter of 2022, the artist exhibited his groundbreaking “STATE OF THE ART” project during Miami Art Week at Arlo Wynwood, the first hotel to open in Miami’s preeminent creative and cultural district.
Officially opening in the fall (Autumn), Arlo Williamsburg will be the fourth Arlo Hotels property in New York City, joining Arlo SoHo, Arlo NoMad and Midtown. It marks Arlo Hotels’ debut in Brooklyn and its sixth hotel overall.
Arlo’s other properties include the recently opened Arlo Chicago in the Midwest and Arlo Wynwood, the first-ever hotel in Miami’s Wynwood neighbourhood.
