International Women’s Day on March 8 will be celebrated by the Hôtel Plaza Athénée and Art Photo Expo Production, who are joining forces to produce an exclusive art exhibition ‘Femmes je vous aime’ (Women, I Love You), located in the Parisian hotel’s La Cour Jardin at 25 avenue Montaigne.
Open to the public from February 24 until the end of April 2019, the exhibition references Julien Clerc’s song ‘Femmes, je vous aime’ and aims to honour womens’ strength and their vulnerability through a selection of paintings, photography and sculpture. Twenty contemporary international artists will present their vision of femininity in La Cour Jardin. Just a few of the many iconic women features are Romy Schneider, Marilyn Monroe, Coco Chanel and Audrey Hepburn.
Acclaimed photographers showing their work include Ormond Gigli, famous for his photograph ‘Girls in the Windows’ where, in 1960, he was bold enough to have 43 women pose in the windows of a New York brownstone. Michel Comte’s photographs of models from the ’90s are on show, as well as celebrated Canadian photographer Douglas Kirkland’s shots of Romy Schneider and Audrey Hepburn. Other female icons in the show include Brigitte Bardot and Marylin Monroe – photographed by Russel Young, who sprinkled his canvases with diamond dust. Also on display are photographs by Georges Dambier focusing on the elegance of the 50s and 60s. Other artists include Thierry Le Gouès, Russel Young, Claude Azoulay, Mr Brainwash, Giuliano Bekor and many more.
The exhibition will be open to the public between February 24 until the end of April 2019 – 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
