The Beneteau Barracuda – a new fast, practical and comfortable design
Beneteau is introducing the Barracuda, a boat with an innovative design that re-invents the fishing spirit! The first of a new power boat range, this outboard comes across at first glance as powerful and determined, with a winning space and resolutely assertive lines. Its sea keeping qualities, its great flexibility and the optimisation of space are its main assets.
Showing at the autumn boat shows, it will attract all those who like to carry out their seagoing activities without sacrificing comfort and safety. The Barracuda is not just practical; it is also sociable, fast and very well equipped. Modern and sleek, the Barracuda is sure to rapidly collect many enthusiasts!
A logical development in response to new expectations
Following the success of the Antares, which over time, has of course moved towards the small cruiser, Bénéteau tasked themselves to design and develop a model unique of its kind, suitable for different types of activity on the water but more especially for all kinds of fishing, all over the world. Sized for travelling quickly and safely, the Barracuda is a single- or twin-engine outboard. In addition to its reliability, the outboard engine is economical and easy to maintain. Furthermore important improvements have allowed a notable reduction in the noise and vibration levels for greater pleasure under way.
Everything has been thought of to give the boat maximum comfort and practicality whilst respecting the principal values of the brand: sea keeping qualities, design, safety and innovation.
Air-Step® and double chine – Obvious choices for the Barracuda
Fitted with Air-Step® technology, the hull has been specially designed for this boat, marrying passengers’ comfort and enjoyment for the driver. It can achieve speeds of 30 or even 45 knots combined with reduced engine power with both the single and twin engines.
The boat gains in performance and in efficiency, its sea keeping qualities encourage pushing the speed even when the sea gets up. To reinforce the feeling of safety, the narrow, flared bow eases passage through the waves minimising the water being thrown up whilst the double chine ensures great stability when stopped and alongside.
Comfort is available in the exterior and interior style
Completely laid out around the wheelhouse, the boat demonstrates a great fluidity in moving around, optimisation of space, clever and numerous stowage areas, etc. This ‘Walkaround’ is even more fluid than most as the wheelhouse is accessible via two sliding doors, port and starboard.
The cockpit space is consequently clear and completely adaptable: a folding bench, the aft bench seat folds away, and a hanging worktop/sink is available as an option. The platforms fore and aft are equally cleverly laid out, without mentioning the three large compartmented and lockable lockers.
The Barracuda’s heart: A closed, glazed and structured wheelhouse
The Barracuda is meant to be as sociable as it is comfortable, for sharing time on the water, fishing, picnicking amongst friends or family, etc. The wheelhouse has been thought out as a comfortable shelter with welcoming bench seats and folding tables to turn it into an eating area in an instant. The driver’s and co-driver’s tub seats with bolster are swivelling. The vertical wheelhouse windscreens give clear space and much-appreciated, wide all-round vision as well as maximum light. The instrument panel is equipped according to the purchaser’s preferences and the options taken, the latest engine instrument technology and navigation electronics.
There is access to the cabin from the saloon, where the headroom is just right. An occasional sleeping area is fitted with a small head compartment and marine WC, well suited to this eight-metre boat.
A high version!
The Barracuda is available in semi-fly version with a second, two-seater driving position, accessible from the after end of the cockpit. In the style of American fishing boats, the position is deep, surrounded with a guardrail for added safety. Fully equipped like the wheelhouse driving position, the Barracuda fly guarantees navigation in the best conditions with a widened 360° field of vision.
