Renowned singer/songwriter Billy Joel has generously donated his 57-foot (17.35m) modern commuter yacht to the International SeaKeepers Society
The International SeaKeepers Society works with the yachting community to promote oceanographic research, conservation, and education and provides yacht owners and crew the unique opportunity to advance marine sciences and to raise awareness about global ocean issues.
The SeaKeepers Society is comprised of significant leaders who believe that protecting the world’s oceans is the key to protecting the global environment. Society members understand that the ocean is a keystone to live on earth and, as such, the Society as a whole is dedicated to creating tangible solutions that will address the plight of the oceans. Its motto is, “Research, Educate, Protect and Restore.”
“The International SeaKeepers Society greatly appreciates such a generous gesture by Mr. Billy Joel to support an incredibly worthy cause,” said Chairman of the Board of The International SeaKeepers Society Michael Moore. SeaKeepers President/CEO added Richard Snow added: “We are forever grateful for this donation and would like to thank yacht broker Bruce Leffers of Northrop & Johnson for assisting to make this happen.”
“When the situation is right, it is an honour to help support an outstanding charity like SeaKeepers,” said Group President of Northrop & Johnson Bruce Leffers.
About M/Y Vendetta
Weighing only 40,000 pounds, VENDETTA glides atop the open ocean with speeds in excess of forty knots, while twin 1300 horsepower MAN diesels coupled to POWER-VENT ® Marine Drive System quietly drone under a well-insulated engine room. A relatively narrow, modified-V hull, with a plumb bow, slight rocker forward and straight sections aft, makes for an admirable performer, whether relaxing in the calm of a secluded cove or piercing wind whipped swells on an open sea.
Vendetta was launched in the summer of 2005, but it’s still almost unknown out of US. The hull was built using advanced resin infusion technique, incorporating vinylester resin infused into a Dupont Kevlar hybrid cloth with Core-Cell foam core. The goal was to keep the boat’s strength to weight ratio as high as possible. The hull, deck and small parts were assembled and finished at both Coecles Harbor Marine and Directors Mamaroneck Yard.
The enclosed cockpit easily accommodates a group of six, in four individual Stidd 500 Series Low Back Chairs and a twin bench seat. She is equipped with a custom Raymarine electronics package. Down below is decidedly open, with only one personal door providing privacy to the head compartment. There is a raised galley area aft with small dining table. Forward are two settee/bunks with day bag storage just above and outboard. Overhead hatches, portlights and dorade vents offer excellent natural illumination and ventilation while air-conditioning and 24vdc lighting provides additional creature comforts.
