If you grew up in the 1980s and even the 90s, Braun Audio was one of the must-have brands. Around thirty years ago they completely switched focus. All this has changed, and they’ve returned to their roots by reimagining some of their most famous offerings, their iconic L.E. Speakers.

Throughout much of my younger years, Braun Audio was a constant. During my school days in the 1980s, my friends and I would wander into high street shops such as Currys and Dixons staring at the latest audio offerings from Braun Audio, Goodmans, Saisho and Sensorex. Then adult life took over, and other things took priority.

In all honesty, I didn’t know that Braun Audio had stepped away. But given the massive interest in brands from 30 or 40 years ago, I am not surprised they’re back in the market. If you’re an avid watcher of things on eBay like me, you’ll notice that products from yesteryear are fetching surprisingly large sums, and this is probably down to the simple fact they bring back happy memories.

To mark the return of Braun Audio to the mainstream, the brand has reinvented and re-launched their classic L.E. speakers from 1959. The new L.E. range comprises of three speakers, the LE01, LE02 and LE03 and they will be available to purchase from Sunday 1st November for existing registered Braun subscribers with a general release on Wednesday 11th November.

The new speakers keep to mono colouring as with many other products launched in this modern age and don’t, fortunately, don’t have the sharp edges found on many audio products from the 80s and 90s. Initially, the speakers will only be available in white with the black versions introduced at a later date.

It seems I am not alone in being excited that Braun Audio is back and embracing their roots. In recent times, they’ve picked up some quite prestigious awards, picking up accolades such as Red Dot’s Best of the Best award this year and a Gold IF Design Award.

About Braun Audio’s New L.E. Speakers
Although I haven’t had the opportunity to test out the new L.E. Speakers personally, from what I understand from the brand, they are packed with some very interesting features.

First and foremost, we need to talk about the speakers audio capability. They are said to delivery excellent audio quality and clarity irrespective of the volume setting. They also are also capable of being wireless paired which will please modern-day audiophiles.

Another aspect which will please tech-fans is they contain smart functionality. They Braun Audio L.E. Speakers have Google Assistant built-in. This lets you take manual control of the functions by using your voice. They also have a privacy mode which lets you disconnect the microphones to ensure that no one can spy on what you are doing at home. The tech doesn’t stop here, they’ve also had Chromecast built-in, which supports more than three-hundred streaming services, coupled with regular software updates.

The speaker’s performance can be controlled via a downloadable app. This allows users to tune the playback to their exact requirements. The app also allows users to manually tune bass and treble levels so you can achieve the authentic sound Braun Audio is known for.

Braun Audio’s new speaker range has a machined aluminium surround which the brand has stated is highly durable. The buttons are positioned in a simple minimalist configuration and have LED lights to keep you in tune with what’s happening.

Cable management is another aspect that has been at the forefront of the designer’s minds; after all, none of us like looking at a mess. They thought that has gone into the cable management doesn’t solely focus on the speakers; it also extends to the wall mounts and stands, which should make the speakers ideal for placing anywhere in the home.

With floor stands in mind; if you mount the speakers in portrait mode, they can be configured into a stereo pair with each speakers becoming a single audio channel (left and right).

I’m thrilled that many brands from my youth are coming back and embracing their roots, and I couldn’t be happier that Braun Audio is one of them.

The new LE Range will be available via the U.K. through Braun Audio’s online store and will also be available via selected premium audio and electronics retailers across Germany, France and Switzerland. More details can be found on the Braun Audio website.

Outside of Europe, Braun Audio will be available through the Museum Of Modern Art’s store in NYC in the U.S. However, there are plans to expand on this, and updates will be made available on the company’s website.
