One Direction’s Niall Horan, songstress Katherine Jenkins and presenter Claudia Winkleman, were among stars at British Airways’ twelfth annual Wentworth Ball
The day-long golf and gala event raised an incredible £220,000 for the airline’s global charity partnership with Comic Relief. To date the event has raised more than £1.2 million, through its celebrity auction and attendance.
During the day, Niall Horan and football commentator Alan Shearer, joined some of the airline’s frequent flyers to ‘tee off’ at the prestigious Surrey golf club.
Dazzling in a royal purple dress by Suzanne Neville, Katherine Jenkins performed at the evening gala ball, alongside soprano, Laura Wright.
Katherine Jenkins said: “It’s always a privilege to be involved in British Airways’ fundraising events for Comic Relief, and tonight was a very special occasion to mark its twelfth year anniversary.”
Mary Brew, British Airways’ lead community programmes, said: “The Wentworth fundraiser is especially close to our hearts at British Airways. It has established itself as one of the annual get-togethers that everyone looks forward to while raising lots of money at the same time.
“We would like to express our sincere thanks to everyone who gave up their time, but most of all Wentworth – for kindly providing the venue for such a long time. We look forward to a new and exciting chapter next year.”
It was a poignant occasion with it being the last time the event is held at Wentworth – a tradition since 2004.
The airline has raised over £12.5 million for Comic Relief through its ‘Flying Start’ partnership since it launched in 2010.
