Sabi Phagura puts Brook + Wilde’s new Everdene Cooling Pillow and Duvet to the test.
Here at Luxurious Magazine, we have been working tirelessly over the past six months discussing every aspect of the Coronavirus and the effect it is having on us. From products like the best face masks to wear, and looking after our skin, to how the hospitality industry is adapting to allow for social distancing.
But today, we are switching off from the whole pandemic and turning our attention to good quality sleep. And with that comes the right setting, a decent mattress and of course sumptuous pillows and duvets.
As we transition from summer to winter months, we’ll naturally want to hibernate, and what better way to do it than with one of Britain’s most luxurious sleep homeware brands, Brook + Wilde. The company has just launched a new range of pillows and duvets, made for those wanting to doze in complete luxury come bedtime.
But this is not just any old bedding. Each product has been meticulously crafted using innovative technology and know-how to deliver the perfect night’s sleep. But we didn’t want to just take their word for it; we decided to put one of their three ranges to the test – the Everdene Cooling Range.
Let’s face it, the UK doesn’t exactly flow from one season into another seamlessly. More accustomed to seasons changing daily, the Everdene Cooling Pillow and Duvet was an attractive bedding of choice to review. Boasting state-of-the-art thermoregulating Outlast® technology, this range actively manages heat and moisture to ensure the most refreshing night’s sleep.
The light and lofty pillow feature a 100% Egyptian long-staple cotton casing that is filled with Polyester hollow fibre, which is more cooling and requires less maintenance than down and feather pillows. Meanwhile, the duvet, encased in 100% Egyptian long-staple cotton batiste, is also coated in a special Aloe Vera finishing.
The timing of testing this duvet really couldn’t have come at a better time. With summer almost gone in a flash, interspersed with the odd night feeling hot and muggy, this duvet lived up to its claim of regulating the body temperature. I felt nice and snug on colder nights, and nice and cool when it was warmer.
I particularly liked the fact it’s exceptionally light-weight and did not suffocate as a heavy tog would do in winter months. This also means that I could well make do with just one duvet for all seasons. Therefore, although pricey with a starting price of £139 for a single, it’s well worth the investment considering we spend a third of our lives in bed.
The pillow I must admit was a lot harder and bigger than I am used to, but after two weeks, I became accustomed to it. This, of course, is a personal preference and there’s nothing stopping me from swapping it with one of the other ranges the brand offers.
Talking of ranges, the Cavendish Duck Down and the Marlowe Goose Down make up the newly-launched collection. The focus of the former is support and alignment. Its plush pillows include three chambers filled with both duck down and feather which enables the pillow to retain its structure and shape over time – which is ideal if you’re looking for more support for the neck and spine. Meanwhile, the duvet has a two-layered design and comes in a choice of 4.5 and 8.0 tog.
But if it’s luxury you’re after the Marlowe Goose Down Range – their most luxurious collection – this is the one for you. The Marlowe products are made up of 90% new white Hungarian goose down, offering the ultimate choice for people wanting to sleep in pure comfort and luxury.
Brook + Wilde ensures that the down used is DOWNPASS2017 certified and compliant with the Zero Tolerance Standard, guaranteeing that the filling materials do not come from live animals or from foie gras production. So, you really can sleep in peace.
