If you do overdo the rum – and trust me it’s hard not to particularly with the spirit of the people around you – you’ll be assured of a good night’s sleep in one of the 124 rooms and suites.
The elegant West Indian-inspired décor ensures both comfort and luxury in equal measures. Each room is beautifully designed which allows for ample space to get some R&R. The bathroom in my Resort View Room has to be one of the best I’ve stayed in. Despite showering indoors I felt like I was outside thanks to the magnificent view of the hotel’s gardens from the huge window.
The hotel’s location couldn’t be more idyllic. Overlooking Capella Marina, guests can while away hours looking at premier yachts berthed here from around the globe. The bay is known as ‘hurricane hole’ due to its location on the west side of the island, where it is surrounded by mountains and experiences minimal tidal changes. Indeed, several major maritime insurance companies routinely recognise Marigot Bay as a true safe harbour.
It’s not hard to spend your entire holiday at the resort but those seeking adventure can book a yacht and go exploring.
There’s plenty to do in this part of the Island as our guide Jahrod from St Lucia Eco Adventures demonstrated during a tour. The Marantha Gardens are a plant lovers’ dream while a tour around the Morne Coubaril Estate will make any foodie salivating, after learning about their cocoa making and tasting techniques.
Multi-talented Jahrod also took us on the Tet Paul Nature Trail where we learned about local farming and the landscape before heading off to the best location to take pictures of the Pitons. Similar to Italy’s leaning tower of Pisa, there is a knack for taking the perfect snap where you can touch the tip of the mountains. We were in good hands as the guide expertly tilted our smartphone cameras cleverly to get the best angle.
If you never tire of getting a beauty fix then a visit to Sapphire Falls for a clay experience is for you. Available exclusively through Eco Adventures, we had great fun slapping on thick turmeric coloured mud on our entire bodies before washing it off under a natural waterfall against a rock. Now, a model I’m not but it was fun pretending I was auditioning for a shampoo advert.
The Capella Marigot Bay really does live up to its expectations and beyond. It provides you with a tranquil environment and access to the real St Lucian lifestyle. But it’s the personal friendly touch of its staff that makes all the difference. You’re never far from a friendly face or a rum. That’s because here it’s almost always rum ‘o’ clock.
