Kickstarter is a great platform for discovering new technology designed to make your life more enjoyable and the Coros Linx Smart Cycling Helmet is one of them
After its success at the consumer electronics show and a superb fundraising campaign on Kickstarter, the Coros Linx Smart Cycling Helmet is set to make many of Britain’s cyclists very happy now that it’s available in the UK.
Ask someone to describe a cycling helmet and most will just imagine protective headwear, the Coros Linx Smart Cycling Helmet also fits into this category but with a few special additions. What makes it stand out is the impressive tech inside the helmet, which is the main reason ourselves and so many other lifestyle magazines want to bring it to the attention of our readers.
In reasonable weather, cycling is fun, but when the weather is not so accommodating, you sometimes need help to keep going. Imagine a long cycle ahead, gloomy weather and zero enthusiasm, what if you could liven the journey up while keeping eyes firmly on the road.
Well, now you can as the Coros Linx Smart Cycling Helmet syncs via Bluetooth to phones, allowing music, navigation, ride data, phone calls and notifications to the user via the helmets speaker. In addition to this, it even allows riders to speak to one another if they are also wearing a Coros Linx helmet.
Like the high-end Bluetooth headsets, the helmet has bone conducting speakers transmitting sounds without obstructing the ear canal. From a safety point of view, this is ideal as users are able to hear traffic and other sounds while keeping their eyes firmly focused on what’s ahead and around them.
The built-in microphone is placed inside the temple of the helmet which protects it from outside noise, just focusing on the speech, and transmitting it with superb clarity.
Coros has also launched an app which sensor if there has been an accident which gives the user 30 seconds to 30 seconds to let the Coros App know they are okay or it will automatically call for help to a predetermined emergency contact.
The helmet also comes with a handlebar remote, which allows users to accept phone calls, adjust sounds and link with numerous apps. It works with android and iPhone via Bluetooth 4.0. Its battery will last 10+ hours and will notify you when it needs charging.
The helmet weighs in at a lightweight 400g and is designed to help low drag aiding high-performance road cycling at high speed. It has 15 airflow vents allowing cooling and a comfortable foam strip lining. Suitable for all weather wear and is rain, water, splash and sweat resistant. Made with a polycarbonate and EPS impact foam and is consumer product safety commission certified.
