Cotswold Airport in Kemble will welcome the Red Arrows back to their former home on August Bank Holiday weekend, Sunday 26th to Monday 27th, when the world famous Royal Air Force aerobatic display team will continue their patriotic season at the inaugural Best of British Show.
The 2012 air display season has seen the Red Arrows perform at patriotic occasions including The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, The Royal Wedding of HRH Prince William and Kate Middleton and most recently the opening ceremony of the London 2012 Olympics.
Kemble will play host to the next patriotic event in the Red Arrows’ busy display season calendar at its brand new event the Best of British Show at Cotswold Airport, which celebrates all that is iconic about Britain from culture, inventions, entertainment, food and drink.
The Red Arrows will be based from Cotswold Airport for the entire show weekend, which is expected to attract over 20,000 visitors to see a three-hour air display, sound stage, classic car and military vehicle exhibition, animal arena acts such as the Lamb National and Lurcher Racing, a wildlife zoo, fun family dog show, traditional funfair, Craft Tent and much more.
Visitors will see the Reds display on Sunday as well as several opportunities to see them fly in and out of the show on both days. The Red Arrows were based at the former RAF Kemble (now Cotswold Airport) for nearly 20 years during the 1960s, 70s and 80s. The historic Gloucestershire aerodrome is often referred to as the Red Arrows’ spiritual home by both pilots and fans alike.
Glen Moreman, Operations Manager at Cotswold Airport commented: “It is a welcome sight to see the Reds back displaying in the skies above the Cotswolds and their presence will add a real buzz to our inaugural Best of British Show. Many residents will remember seeing the team practicing several times a day in the skies around Kemble. There are still many strong links between the team and this area and I know that the team always enjoy returning to display here.”
The Red Arrows will display at the Best of British Show alongside other British favourites including the RAF Hawk and RAF Tucano Display Teams, the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, Tiger Nine formation, Ultimate High Extra300 and The Silver Stars Parachute Display Team.
Meet the Red Arrows
A number of ‘Meet the Pilots’ signings will take place during the two days of the Best of British Show weekend for visitors to take photos and obtain autographs at the RAF Benevolent Fund stand. Timings will be announced during the show.
