For the final part of our three part series on the luxurious Danna Hotel in Langkawi, we will be highlighting the wonderful cuisine on offer.
The Straits & Co is also a preferred venue for lunch. It’s open throughout the day and offers an incredible menu featuring local favourite dishes as well as Western delights such as signature pizzas, sandwiches, salads, pastas and tapas. There is a separate menu for desserts that would leave any sweets connoisseur satisfied. There is a fantastic range of cakes and delicious treats from special pandan leaf cheese cake to chocolate fudge and home-made ice-cream. The Straits & Co has a wonderful quaint Parisian café feel to it and sets a very different mood to the main evening venue – The Planter’s Restaurant.
We had dinner at The Planter’s Restaurant on the first evening of arrival and were dazzled by the ambience of the surroundings. The opulent dining room is impressively furnished in the best traditions of the grand Colonial era. The dimmed lights of the 15-tier chandeliers, the flickering candles on the beautifully set tables and the sounds of the live music coming from the grand piano in the corner are all designed to create a perfect atmosphere for a romantic dinner or a celebration of something special and unforgettable. Thanks to the hard work of the new executive Chef Ridzuan Abd Malek and his team the food lives up to the highest possible standards too. From creative choice to delicious taste and delightful presentation each meal at The Planter’s is a real treat. The menu is varied and designed to please a variety of tastes and preferences offering a wide range of French inspired dishes, fresh seafood as well as all-time Malaysian favourites. Excellent service, carnival of flavours and attention to details are sure to please the most demanding diners.
Breakfast takes place at the same restaurant and deserves a special mention. In broad daylight the place looks totally different. Bright sunshine pours in through the French window revealing the views over the glistening swimming pool and the sandy beaches beyond. We both agreed that in all our travels we’ve never come across such an exceptional combination of variety and quality of breakfast buffet as here at Danna. Catering for all tastes from simple to the most demanding, the room is filled with things you’ll be tempted to savour. To start with, there is a great selection of freshly-squeezed fruit, vegetable juices and home-made jams and yogurts.
Many of the dishes have a healthier alternative on offer for the diet-conscious customers, like egg-white omelets, low-fat yogurts, sugar-free jams and skimmed milk. There’s an astonishing range of fresh local fruits and home-baked breads and pastries of all descriptions; wide selection of hot dishes to satisfy the Western style breakfast lovers as well as many Asian favourites inspired by Malay, Chinese, Japanese and Indian cuisine. Cold cuts, artisan cheeses, salads, preserves and array of cereals are there for you to relish. And if you’re in the mood for something really special and want to be truly spoilt – have a glass of bubbly!
