In 2003 the high luxury watch brand DeWitt was established in the picturesque location of Meyrin, Geneva, Switzerland.
Its eminent founder Jérôme de Witt, is a direct descendant of European Emperors and Kings. He also is an exceptionally skilled and talented watchmaker. Presently the company manufactures all its magnificent timepieces in house at its substantial 5000 square-metre production facility.
With a diameter measuring only 43mm this definitely is one of the DeWitt’s smaller timepieces. Realistically these classical proportions should entice interest from serious collectors. Early this year I had the privilege of reviewing the wonderful Academia Blackstream Chronograph, which I felt was very comfortable to wear. On that basis I would imagine this piece would sit nicely on the wrist. Like all of the other extraordinary watches being auctioned at ‘Only Watch’ this is one of a kind timepiece. For that reason I suspect this incredible watch would only be reserved for extra special occasions and not for daily use.
Aesthetically the Twenty-8-Eight High Jewellery Skeleton Tourbillon is a striking looking watch. The luxurious 18-carat white gold case is set with 36 baguette-cut diamonds and 104 brilliant-cut diamonds. This gives the timepiece a really opulent and exclusive appearance. The skeletonised dial is mind blowing and the overall attention to detail is first rate. Other wonderful features include the delicate hour/minute hands and the imposing tourbillon visible through a large aperture positioned at 6 o’clock.
DeWitt have equipped the Twenty-8-Eight High Jewellery Skeleton Tourbillon with a formidable Calibre DW8028s. This accomplished mechanical movement comprises 19 jewels, 185 hand decorated components and oscillates at a frequency of 18,000 vibrations per hour. All the case, plate, bridges, wheels and miniature screws are meticulously hand polished by a single watchmaker. This unbelievable timepiece features hours, minutes and delivers a respectable power reserve of 72-hours.
DeWitt are hopeful the sublime Twenty-8-Eight High Jewellery Skeleton Tourbillon will achieve an estimated price of between 250,000-300,000 Euros (approximately $329,490-$395,390).
