What are the staples of a luxury resort? First and foremost fantastic accommodation, the area where Pangkor Laut Resort and, of course, The Estates at Pangkor Laut undoubtedly excel, but just as important on any luxury holiday is dining. And once again Pangkor Laut does not disappoint. There is enough choice as well as excellent quality and the highest standard of service you can possibly hope for.
Talking of choice, there are seven restaurants to choose from at the resort. Something for everyone, from fine dining, where you dress appropriately and share a private moment with your loved one, just the two of you, to a comfortable relaxed and laid-back establishment where you can have fun with a group of friends and bring along the whole family including kids of all ages. The choice of cuisine also varies from Local to Western, from Chinese to Italian and beyond.
Let’s have a closer look at the dining options on the Island:
The biggest and the busiest, is The Feast Village. located next to the reception area, with open-air or alfresco dining looking over the sea and the island’s jetty. It is here that breakfast and dinner is served.
The amazing thing I noticed about The Feast Village is the fantastic level of service even at the busiest morning hours, as the guests come down for their first meal of the day. The buffet breakfast is truly creative and inspiring, making it interesting and different to other resorts. Not only you are presented with a great variety of the expected exotic fruits, vegetables, cereals, yogurts and freshly-baked local delights from pastries to various types of bread to satisfy even the fussiest of eaters such as myself; apart from the usual bacon and eggs (any style cooked on request in front of you) with all the trimmings – baked beans, tomatoes, mushrooms, sausages etc, there is a splendid choice of dishes freshly cooked right in front of you in the designated stations of the open plan kitchen. So, you don’t just wander around the long benches stacked with already cooked dishes, you get to take a little trip around the clean and modern-tech equipped kitchen areas and place a personal order for what you’d like and how you’d like it directly to the chefs .
From delicious stir-fried noodles to warm soft Indian bread, your favourites from Asian and Western cuisine. All dishes are hot (as in temperature, though it’s entirely up to you), expertly cooked and then delivered to your table alongside the freshly-squeezed juices or freshly-brewed coffee or tea of your choice. I believe, when it comes to dining, choice is just as important as quality, luckily, here you will find both plus remarkably efficient service with a smile to ensure the most positive and invigorating start of your day. If you choose to eat here in the evenings, there is no strict dress-code, perfect for those who don’t feel like dressing up on holiday. It’s family friendly, so children are welcome. There is also a chef’s table for special guests and an impressive wine-cellar to boot.
As for lunch, there are three main destinations to check out depending on where you’re spending your day. If you are attending a spa treatment and prefer to spend the day lounging about by the infinity pool at the Spa premises, you don’t have to walk far in search of an afternoon meal. There is Jamu Bar set right above the Spa’s pool. Here, appropriately, given the location, they serve healthy snacks from Japanese cuisine as well as exotic fruit cocktails and juices. There are must-try fantastic sea-food and vegetable salads as well as sushi, sashimi and other fresh sea delicacies on offer.
Another favourite lunch destination is also at the sea-front, by the main pool area, where many holiday-makers with families choose to relax during the day – Royal Bay Beach Club. Here you will find a variety of light meals perfect for an afternoon snack by the pool-side. A mainly western menu with staple favourites like Club Sandwich, Burgers and many more. In the evenings it magically turns into a chill-out bar where you can sit back and enjoy the sunset and cool evening breeze with a refreshing cocktail or something stronger.
