We’ve featured the Venice-Simpleton Orient-Express a number of times over the past year, but another train that is equally as luxurious is the truly magnificent Eastern & Oriental Express.
For those of you not as familiar with this spectacular train as we are, let us tell you more about it. The train was turned into the exquisite locomotive we see today by Gerard Gallet, the man who was also behind the renowned Venice-Simpleton Orient-Express and the British Pullman. This colonial-style locomotive travels through Malaysia and Thailand, crossing into Laos and you can depart from Singapore and Bangkok. There are three grades of wood-panelled cabins to choose from – Pullman, State and Presidential Suites, obviously, the grander the accomodation, the more you’ll be paying.
If you’re the type of person that enjoys food as much as beautiful scenery and sublime luxury, you will be in for an absolute treat. The train provides cuisine that rivals the very best fine-dining restaurants. Two beautifully appointed restaurant cars offer both lunch and dinner. Breakfast can be taken in the privacy of your own cabin and for those early risers, refreshments in the observation car is a must. Take a moment to imagine yourself wafting through the jungles and mountains with a freshly squeezed glass of cool orange juice in hand.
