Brits up and down the country are taking advantage of the very generous stamp duty holiday offered by the government. This has in no small part helped to push house prices to an all-time high with the average home now worth £245,747.

Mortgage lender Halifax said property prices were 5.2% higher than the same month a year earlier and property values were up by 1.6% month on month. While lockdown and furlough have meant many of us have spent more time in our homes than ever before, this has provided Brits with ample time to evaluate our homes.

In light of this, Brits are now looking at which DIY home improvement projects could help add value to their properties.

Powered Now has unveiled national research into the most popular projects the nation has been looking to commence, post the easing of COVID-19 lockdown restrictions, in order to add extra value to properties, in a time of record highs.

The research has suggested that Brits are certainly not allowing the pandemic to get in the way of their home improvement aspirations.

Key statistics:

  • 18% of Brits are planning to commence DIY home improvements after the COVID-19 lockdown
  • 33% of those agreed they were looking to commence a landscaping or gardening refurb, amounting to 3 million renovations
  • 20% agreed have employed a plumber to redo their bathrooms, equalling 1.6 million refurbs
  • 20% agreed have employed a tradesperson to redo their kitchen, equalling 1.6 million renovations

Landscaping the garden

Refurbishing the bathrooms
“An outdated bathroom is one of the biggest reasons a prospective home buyer could be put off from a property. Consider neutral fittings and replacing unfashionable tiles to add up to 5% value to your home.”
