Domitys Bangsar, Where You Can Enjoy Your Golden Years and Be Independent

Newly opened in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, is Domitys Bangsar. It is somewhere people in their later years can live independently and remain productive. In this feature, Ong Chin Huat looks at what this new concept of senior living in Malaysia offers.

A new style of senior living has arrived in Malaysia, and it’s called Domitys. Located in the upscale neighbourhood of Bangsar, Domitys Bangsar comprises 100 studios and one to three-bedroom apartments ranging from 55 to 158 sqm.

For the past twenty-four years, Domitys has specialised in senior serviced residences. It is established throughout France and internationally with residences in Belgium, Italy and Mauritius and employs over 3,000 employees who care for more than 12,000 senior citizens.

In Malaysia, Domitys Bangsar is managed by The Ascott Limited, a Singaporean company well-versed in hospitality and lodging services, boasting a portfolio of properties spanning 200 cities across 40 countries worldwide. It is also Ascott’s first senior living residence to open in Malaysia. It was developed by Plenitude Berhad, a publicly listed company with core interests in property development, investment and management.

Introducing the concept of “invigorating life in the golden age,” this philosophy aligns with the World Health Organisation’s renowned active-ageing model, which emphasises autonomy, independence, good quality of life and healthy life expectancy.

Each of the apartments is fitted with bathroom grab bars and shower chairs, which will support the needs and requirements of independent and active senior citizens.

“Domitys has been the home of choice for active and independent seniors in Europe, and we are excited to introduce this concept of senior living to the Malaysian market,” says Mondi Mecja, Ascott’s Country GM for Malaysia.

Mondi added that following the launch of Domitys Bangsar, Ascott was actively looking to expand in Penang, Sabah, Kuching and Johor.

The activities on offer for residents include yoga, tai chi, aqua therapy, reflexology, physiotherapy sessions and karaoke, and swimming and music classes. If the demand is there, outings can be arranged, including trips to cinemas and exhibitions.
