Cité International de la Gastronomie
One of the highlights of my Lyon stopover was a visit to the extraordinary International City of Gastronomy. Located in the historic Hôtel Dieu development, directly opposite the river, the Cité International de la Gastronomie is a thoroughly interactive homage to French cuisine, with a healthy nod to the importance of health and nutrition.
Enjoy the four floors of exhibits here showing the provenance of the region’s food and wine, as well as a cooking and tasting room. You can see Chef Paul Bocuse’s actual stove that he created his masterpieces on, while one room is just for kids (probably my favourite, with plenty of interactive characters and buttons to press). It even has a child-size play kitchen.
Lyon has more than 4,000 restaurants, and boasts 80 AOC wine appellations, while no fewer than 19 of the city’s Chefs are star-rated in the 2017 Michelin guide. It’s no wonder the city was chosen as the site for the Cité International de la Gastronomie. In fact, this was the most enjoyable way to end my fabulous cruise with CroisiEurope. Santé!
