Newby Teas of London will be unveiling a £75,000 diamond-encrusted tea caddy at the famous Harrods department store in Knightsbridge later this month.
Known as the ‘Epitome’, it features ten round brilliant cut diamonds, and is the result of a partnership between renowned Italian jeweller to the stars, Scavia, whose following includes Naomi Campbell and Liz Taylor, and Newby Teas’ founder, Nirmal Sethia.
The owner will be in good company – one caddy is on the personal shelf of a head of state, given as a gift from the Newby founder, and another is in the Chitra Collection by Newby, the world’s largest private tea accessories collection. Furthermore, it has an intricate, hand-painted floral pattern on the body, and is cast in silver, enamel, and 18ct white gold with 3 micron gold plating. Venetian glass has also been used to line the inner wall.
Contained inside of the caddy is 100g of Newby’s premium Zafrani tea. This unparalleled black variety is made with tippy pekoe Assam leaves blended with aromatic Kashmiri Gulmarg saffron, renowned as the finest quality saffron grown anywhere. This intriguing limited edition tea recalls the time when adding cherished saffron petals to tea was the custom of kings and aristocracy.
