Ong Chin Huat headed over to the Ferria at the Westin Kuala Lumpur and, in doing so, became one of the first to taste what this extraordinary rainforest-themed restaurant has to offer.
Fancy immersing yourself in a tropical rainforest right in the heart of town? Feeling parched from all that shopping at the mall across the street and needing a refreshing cooler? Famished from a non-stop meeting and need to refuel?
Well, search no further because located at the heart of Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur’s main shopping and entertainment drag is the newly opened Amazon-themed bar and restaurant Ferria located in The Westin Kuala Lumpur.
Situated on the ground level just a few steps from the lobby, Ferria welcomes the world-weary traveller, the tired shopper or the exhausted business executive with a refreshing décor filled with verdant greenery, creeping vines, rattan furniture and tropical prints.
Not just an oasis in the city centre, Ferria is a watering hole worthy of its mouth-watering dishes and thirst-quenching cocktails. Specialising in grill dishes such as XL Freshwater Prawn Roll, Amazon Chicken and Grilled Lamb Skewers, this restaurant also offers other dishes such as Creamy Carbonara, Wood Fire Oven Pizzas, Amazon Greens & Crunch Nut salad and Zucchini Fries.
Using the freshest seafood and the choicest cuts of meat, the chefs at Ferria showcase their skill in charcoal grilling and other cutting-edge techniques, which result in the juiciest and most succulent offerings.
Whether it is meat, poultry and seafood such as lobster, freshwater prawns, black cod, Wagyu beef, lamb and chicken, any diner will be spoilt for choice at this restaurant reminiscent of a rainforest.
As for drinks, the bar at Ferria beckons with delectable mocktails such as Amazing Green, made with pineapple, lemon cucumber, and honey and the Forest Asam, made with Calamansi preserved plum and soda water, while cocktails such as Monkey Business, made with Bacardi, Malibu and coconut cream or the Pink Flamingo made with rum, pineapple, strawberry and coconut will set you up for an enjoyable evening.
Apart from the usual bubbly and varieties of reds and whites, there’s also an Organic Biodynamic section in the drinks list serving sparkling tea, a concoction made with jasmine, white tea and Darjeeling; Gargarnega Blend, a handcrafted organic low alcohol drink and Sauvignon Blanc from the Osawa Estate Collection, a thirst-quenching lifted citrus and passionfruit wine.
Dishes not to be missed include the starters, Grilled Smoked Corn cooked with chicken lard, the refreshing Watermelon Poppers, which can be served as a palate cleanser as well and the Tarzan Ariabiate, a spicy paste dish with Tiger Prawns Soft Shell Crab and Chilean Mussel.
Ocean Fresh Oysters with either Amazonian Tosazu Sauce or Generous Gin with Tosazu Twist might feel like an indulgence, but in this setting, it seems appropriate.
Order the Majestic A5 Japanese Wagyu Ribeye if you are a meat lover because it’s a meal and a half, while Wild-Spiced Lamb Pizza served with Toum garlic spread will make you become a pizza lover if you are not one already.
The Jungle Chicken Salad might sound simple, but its zesty chilli lime dressing explores with tangy flavours in one’s mouth while the Triple Cooked Hand Cut Fries garnished with flaky sea salt and Wasabi Mayo is the perfect side dish to nibble at the bar while sipping a cocktail or to accompany a main course.
Noteworthy desserts include the Wild Expedition Tiramisu (above) with a twist with the added lemon zest, and the Grilled Crystal Pineapple served with coconut ice cream and vanilla butter crumble, a satiating way to end what must be the most comforting meal in town!
