S’NEXT, the company behind the Final audio brand launch two new flagship headphones – Sonorous VIII and X
These top-of-the-line full-size models have taken over two years to develop and are hand-made in the Final workshop in Japan. Priced at £2299 and £3499 respectively, the Sonorous VIII and X utilise Final’s 50mm driver with integrated titanium diaphragm to create a clarity and vividness previously unheard in headphones.
Both models are adorned with 24k gold, with the X also featuring beautiful stainless steel earcups. Both models are supplied in a traditional “tomobako” box, usually reserved for the finest hand-crafted Japanese pottery.
Final CEO Mitsuru Hosoo describes the production process of the Sonorous X: “The distinctive features of this product are its light, strong titanium diaphragm, its strong magnet, and its front baffle and driver unit cut from aluminium in an integrated machining process. Unnecessary vibrations are reduced with the housing, which has been machined from a mass of aluminium, and through powering the light, strong diaphragm with a strong magnet. At the development stage of this model, we realized that combining the points above, which were right in theory, made for good results.”
Final began developing magnetic cartridges and step-up transformers in 1974. It wasn’t long before they were manufacturing turntables and speakers which were well ahead of the curve for their time. When Final started manufacturing headphones, they wanted to relay the musicians passion for their art, as well as their own passion for engineering.
