Fincantieri and Viking Sign Contracts for Two New Cruise Ships

Fincantieri has announced the signing of contracts with Viking for the construction of two new cruise ships, which are scheduled for delivery between 2028 and 2029. The value of the deal, subject to financing and other terms and conditions, has been categorised as substantial.

The new ships will be based on the successful design characteristics of previous collaborations between Fincantieri and Viking. With a gross tonnage of approximately 54,300 tons, each ship will accommodate 998 passengers in 499 cabins, meaning they will be catering to the small cruise ship segment.

The ships will be built in compliance with the latest environmental standards and equipped with advanced safety systems, reflecting our commitment to sustainability and innovation.

The agreement underscores the robust recovery of the cruise market, evidenced by the return of passenger volumes to pre-pandemic levels. This milestone strengthens Fincantieri’s commercial pipeline, complementing the significant orders secured earlier this year.

Fincantieri’s enduring partnership with Viking, which dates back to 2012 and now encompasses a total of 20 ships, including expedition units by Vard, highlights a shared commitment to excellence and sustainable practices in maritime construction.

Pierroberto Folgiero, Chief Executive Officer and General Manager of Fincantieri commented, “This contract further consolidates our relationship with Viking and confirms Fincantieri as a partner of choice for shipowners who want to build ships that can use both the energy sources of today and those of the future.

“Fincantieri and Viking, together, trace the shipbuilding industry’s path towards the goal of zero emissions. Thanks to the new order, Fincantieri consolidates its order book, we are excellent and long-term partners in the cruise sector, as expressed in our 2023-27 Business Plan.”
