If you love Turkish food no matter what time of the day, there’s good news for you. Firedog in London’s hip Fitzrovia area has just launched its new meze dinner menu.
Already a runaway success with its Turkish inspired breakfast, brunch and lunch, the eatery is now taking orders throughout the evening to cater for those who just can’t get enough of the flavours inspired by the Ottoman region. The open flame cooking on the charcoal grill certainly has our taste buds going here at Luxurious Magazine’s headquarters.
The new day to night menu takes Firedog’s meze sharing concept to another level.
The fresh concept circulates around the original ‘Firedog’ grill, complemented by traditionally inspired meze plates. The whole animal grill is at the centre of the menu, creating stand-out small plates from the prime cuts, off cuts and everything in-between the hero of the table for a unique, shared dining experience. Expect to enjoy specially selected carnivorous courses accompanied with meze inspired from the Eastern Caspian to the Western Aegean seas.
The culinary offering has been devised by George Notley – executive chef of the Fork and Blade group – who has extensively travelled the region to capture its gastronomic heritage. Highlights from the menu include the full grill experience with chicken, beef and lamb, plus a range of sharing dishes to complement. All dishes are prepared traditionally and where appropriate, pay homage to the ancient style of cooking using a wood chip fired grill known as the Fire Dog, hence the restaurants’ aptly chosen name.
Lime and mandarin cured red mullet, smoked aubergine with lime and chilli glazed charcoal prawns with seaweed and herbs, are just some of the dishes you can expect to see on the menu. You won’t be disappointed. And there is something to suit all taste buds with plenty of vegetarian and fish choices on the menu.
What’s more, the cosy atmosphere of the underground restaurant with its mixed media murals clashing with a more traditional interior makes it a fun place to hang out for after work drinks or a late night tipple.
Talking of which, drinks are taken just as seriously as the food. The creative cocktail menu features ingredients that retell the stories on the restaurant’s illustrated walls and show off fun and contemporary twists; from toasted marshmallow and candyfloss toppings to beetroot popcorn.
The Siren on the Rocks made with Beetroot spirit, black carrot juice, Amaro Montenegro grapefruit juice and blackberry jam will add a healthy dimension to your drink. Now that would really get the drinks flowing on an evening.
