Bentley Flying Spur W12 Engine
Bentley’s renowned 6.0-litre, twin-turbocharged W12 engine is the powerhouse behind the new Flying Spur, driving a dual clutch, 8-speed gearbox. Top speed? 207mph (333 km/h) and should you wish to accelerate in a hurry, the Flying Spur will take you from 0-60mph in just 3.7 seconds. Statistically speaking, the car delivers 635 PS (626 bhp) and 900 Nm (664 lb.ft,). Impressive performance here alongside 48V electronics.
The new Flying Spur uses the same 8-speed ZF dual-clutch transmission as the Continental GT, for smooth and refined acceleration, quicker gearshifts and improved fuel economy.
Understanding that many Flying Spur owners will be chauffeur-driven, the rear seats have access to an all-new (and removable) Touch Screen Remote integrated into the centre console. This allows control all blinds, rear seat massage function and rear climate control, and can be used to pre-store configurations such as mood lighting.
I’m dying to take this beauty for a long, long road trip – with some serious off-roading action too. Best of all? The Flying Spur – as with all other Bentley models – is designed, engineered and hand-crafted in Britain. No other luxury car marque has a dedicated – and passionate – in-house design and build team.
Whether you are at the wheel or being chauffeur driven, the new Bentley Flying Spur is in a league of its own among grand luxury tourers, providing all-wheel steering that is said to enhance stability and manoeuvrability for motorway and town driving. An elegant marriage between sports sedan agility and luxury limo comfort and refinement.
After the W12 launch, Bentley will provide an entry-level V8, as well as a V6 petrol-powered plug-in hybrid that launches in August 2019.
“As with the launch of the Continental GT, the new Flying Spur is a ground-up development that pushes the boundaries of both technology and craftsmanship to deliver segment-defining levels of performance and refinement,” comments Adrian Hallmark, Chairman and Chief Executive of Bentley Motors.
And as Stefan Sielaff reminds us: “It’s this combination of technology and aesthetics that, in the end, makes Bentley extraordinary.”
I couldn’t agree with him more. Congratulations on your centenary year Bentley! Here’s to another 100 Extraordinary Years.
