Giant Chalk Santas Have Appeared on Hillsides Across the UK

Mysterious giant chalk drawings of Santa, complete with a ‘Shh’ gesture, have appeared on hillsides across the UK, with confirmed sightings in the Northwest and Southwest, sparking curiosity and speculation among locals about who’s behind the festive artwork.

The largest of the red, white and purple- Santas, a whopping 1,000 square meters, was spotted in a picturesque seaside village near Bideford, Devon. A nearby poster with a QR code hints at a sweet secret.

However, the mystery has since been unwrapped, and the artwork signals the exciting return of the Cadbury Secret Santa postal service. The much-loved ritual invites people to secretly send a free bar of Cadbury chocolate to a loved one. And the joy of that secret surprise is undeniable as Cadbury research shows four in ten (42%) say receiving a secret gift is even more special than a traditional gift because of the forethought behind it.

This year, it’s easier than ever to participate, with more QR code postal service posters across the UK. Scanning a poster allows gift-givers to meet the Secret Santa digital postie Jeff (no reindeer needed!), select the perfect Cadbury treat and become a Secret Santa!

New this year, to ensure as many people as possible can take part in the festive fun, Cadbury has enlisted a special helper: the Secret Santa chatbot. Chatting with Jeff and sharing one’s location will guide participants towards their nearest poster.

Running until 22nd December, additional chocolate bars will be released daily, giving thousands the chance to share a moment of generosity this Christmas.

To celebrate and add some festive cheer, giant “Shh-ing” Secret Santas have been placed on hillsides– from the dramatic Devon coastline to the picturesque Cumbrian fells. Find a Santa, scan the code, and share a little Cadbury magic this Christmas.”

Cadbury’s research reveals why people love secret gifting so much. 41% love the surprise element, 38% enjoy imagining the recipient’s smile, and 38% say the joy can last for days. It’s a bit like magic (29%), bringing back childhood memories (26%) and creating a sense of wonder (45% enjoy guessing the sender).

Available bars via the service will include classic Cadbury Dairy Milk, as well as Cadbury Dairy Milk Oreo, Caramel, Whole Nut, Fruit and Nut, and Plant bars. For those looking to continue the fun, Cadbury bars and a selection of treats can be purchased via Cadbury Gifts Direct and gifted anonymously.
