A Wee Dram to have with your Haggis, Neeps and tatties is a must on Burns night. For this feature, Jeremy Webb samples Glenfiddich’s Fire and Cane and their 15-year-old to get into the spirit of things.
I never need an excuse to have a tot of a quality single malt whisky, but one night that warrants an indulgence is Burns night. For Scotland, it is a day akin to Hogmanay, a celebration of possibly the greatest Scotsman, the Poet Robert Burns. Glenfiddich, another famous product of Scotland, has two fine spirits they recommend you drink with your Burns Night Supper and raise a few glasses to Rabbie on his birthday on 25th January.
Glenfiddich Fire & Cane
Fire & Cane from Glenfiddich is the fourth concept in the Experimental Series and marries whisky with non-peated malts matured side-by-side in bourbon casks. Providing an explosion of campfire smokiness, the Latin finished rum leaves a lingering woodiness on the palate with a surprising long-lasting flavour of sweet toffee, soft spice, and toasted marshmallow. The ideal dram for a rustic winter’s night, especially 25th January, for a Burns Night Supper.
Glenfiddich’s Fire & Cane is available to purchase for £38.00 (RRP 70cl) from Master of Malt.
Glenfiddich 15 Year Old
Glenfiddich 15 Year Old exemplifies the brand’s family tradition of innovation. The spirit is aged in European oak sherry casks and new oak casks for at least fifteen years; this warming, spiced liquid carries sweet aromas of sweet honey, vanilla fudge and chocolate.
The taste is silky-smooth of ginger, sherry oak, and cinnamon; this whisky is full-bodied with a lingering sweet finish. Delicious neat or with a splash of water.
The 15 Year Old is available to purchase for £49.00 (RRP 70cl) from Clink Spirit.
Who was Robert Burns?
Burns was born on 25th January 1759 and died on 21st July 1796. Affectionately known as Rabbie, he became famous for his poetry and writing in the Scots dialect. A pioneer of Liberalism and Socialism, he wrote many political commentaries.
