March-April is one of the best times to spot grey whales
Whale watching is one of the top activities for both visitors and locals in Newport Beach. Grey whale season typically runs from December – April, providing ample opportunities for sightings.
There are a number of excursions in Newport Beach, which include a dedicated guide on board who teaches passengers everything there is to know about these gentle creatures.
Sightings of dolphins and seals are also common during the cruises.
Newport Beach Brew Boat opens this spring
This spring, the Newport Beach Harbor will welcome the addition of the Newport Beach Brew Boat, a 16-person, BYOB pedal boat.
The 90-minute experience is the first of its kind in Orange County and allows guests to pedal and party as they explore the harbour.
With good weather virtually guaranteed in spring, the Newport Beach Brew Boat is a fantastic option for travellers in search of something new and exciting to try with friends or family.
OC Restaurant Week takes place from 8-14 March
OC Restaurant Week brings together the hottest restaurants and bars across Orange County to offer discounted dining, drinks and exclusive experiences.
There are 36 Newport Beach eateries participating in OC Restaurant Week, including A&O Kitchen + Bar inside Balboa Bay Resort, where diners can enjoy a two-course lunch menu for only $20, and Back Bay Bistro, where the $50 four-course menu includes a complimentary drink.
Newport Beach Film Festival celebrates its 21st birthday in April
Taking place 23-30 April, the Newport Beach Film Festival is the largest international cinema event in Southern California.
The festival recognises both seasoned and emerging talent within the film industry and screens work across a number of disciplines, including documentaries, environmental films and shorts.
Visitors can also attend seminars, workshops and glitzy parties. Last year’s festival saw Zac Efron receive the Outstanding Achievement in Filmmaking Acting honour for his portrayal of Ted Bundy in Extremely Wicked, Shocking Evil and Vile.
Newport Beach Jazz Festival’s 25th anniversary in May
The annual Newport Beach Jazz Festival at the Hyatt Regency Newport Beach celebrates its 25th anniversary on 29-31 May.
Over the course of three days, visitors will watch a host of international and local jazz talent perform live at the hotel’s amphitheatre and golf course. There will also be an international food court and stalls selling art and apparel.
Getting to Newport Beach
Multiple airlines fly direct from London and Dublin to LA including Norwegian, British Airways and Aer Lingus. Newport Beach is less than an hour’s drive south of LA.
