Simon Wittenberg explores the latest vessel to emerge from the Heesen Yachts shipyard in The Netherlands.
Heesen Yachts has formally unveiled its largest-ever steel motor yacht. Named MY Sparta (YN 20067) and measuring 67 metres (just three metres shorter than Galactica Super Nova, which went up for sale in 2021 for €75 million), this vessel was borne out of the Project Avanti concept presented with Winch Design at the Monaco Yacht Show back in 2018.
The yacht’s profile is characterised by a reverse bow, highlighting her apparent length and emphasising her slender form, which is complemented by a bold and assertive sweep of thermobonded tinted glass from bow to stern. In fact, Sparta’s design revolves around family and togetherness, with the social hub found on the main deck aft, where a full-beam main saloon connects perfectly with the low, open-air beach terrace for enjoying life in and next to the sea.
In addition, a transformer passerelle platform provides easy access to the water, while the 6.5-metre infinity pool offers a seamless connection between life aboard Sparta and the vastness of the surrounding seas.
Sparta’s exterior is finished in a classic “Snow White” livery with a contemporary look, thanks to metallic Venetian red and anthracite grey accents. Outdoor spaces feature bespoke furniture created by Winch Design, which has been brought to life by Siebensee and Leerdam. Sparta’s matching custom limo tender – a mini version of the mothership, is conveniently housed behind the gullwing doors of the forward garage, along with the water toys.
On the inside, Winch Design took advantage of Project Sparta’s generous 1,200-gross-tonne interior. Occupants will have access to two separate owner’s suites on a private deck and four guest suites on the main deck. A movable partition separates the forward suites to create a full-beam VIP or a large playroom for younger family members.
An elegant staircase and glass elevator serve all three decks. The lower deck hosts a Japanese-inspired 65-square-metre wellness area boasting an elliptical whirlpool, steam room, sauna, gym, and beauty area. Carefully considered movement flows throughout the accommodation areas will allow the crew to work efficiently and unobtrusively.
The Winch Design interior is based on three different themes, with each deck representing a different component. These are, namely, “water” for the lower deck, “earth” for the main deck, and “air” for the upper deck. Bringing all the elements together are the staggered panels of an oak staircase made by London furniture maker Alex Hull, with vertical lighting to bring this sculptural masterpiece to life.
The earth-themed main saloon features dining chairs with seat backs upholstered in real palm leaves. In the relaxed seating area, a large coffee table takes centre stage, made from two parts of a dark-stained oak trunk, with a leaf-shaped, forest green marble top with a leather finish to create a tactile and three-dimensional effect.
The décor of the master suite on the upper deck aft beautifully captures the lightness of air, using soft fabrics, sky blues, mother-of-pearl inlays and an abstract patterned Tai Ping carpet. In contrast, the forward section is centred around the theme of space, with a constellation wall artwork as the focal point.
Project Sparta was sold to its new owner back in 2019, with the keel-laying ceremony taking place in October 2020.
Heesen’s Project Venus shows off its interior
A Heesen yacht currently in build at Talsma in Friesland, North of Holland, is the 55-metre steel aluminium Project Venus, also known as YN 20655.
Luca Dini Design and Architecture, the prestigious Italian studio, has been entrusted by Heesen to design Project Venus’ 760 gross-tonne interior.
Silvia Margutti, head designer on the project, has created a unique and daring identity that remains friendly and pleasant, driven by contrasts, and providing a unique harmony.
Project Venus is the fifth collaboration between the Dutch Shipyard and leading Italian designer Luca Dini Design and Architecture. Among this yacht’s features are six staterooms that can sleep twelve guests and a sky lounge, which features outdoor furniture by Exteta.
With the build starting in November 2022, Project Venus is available for delivery in Spring 2025 at a cost of €56 million (around £48 million), according to Yatco.
