Simon Wittenberg takes a closer look at Project Jade, the third yacht to be built in Heesen’s new 50-metre semi-displacement class.
Construction of the 50-metre Project Jade superyacht (also known as YN 20350) has started at the Heesen Yachts shipyard in the Dutch town of Oss, ready for delivery in the spring of 2024.
The sporty exterior has been styled by Omega Architects and features a graceful and well-balanced look. One of the standout features of Project Jade is the subtle reverse sheer towards the bow, which both improves visibility from the bridge and accentuates the yacht’s sleek profile. Thanks to the elevated sun pad on the main deck’s aft terrace, Jade offers a full-height beach club, which brings the home of outdoor activities closer to the water.
The modern but cosy interior layout is the work of the acclaimed Italian designer Cristiano Gatto, which sees twelve guests accommodated in five staterooms. The master suite is situated on the main deck forward, with two twins and two doubles on the lower deck. Furthermore, the architectural elements have been designed in such a way so as to offer the new owners an inspiring environment that can be personalised to suit their tastes and lifestyle.
Heesen’s 50-metre fast-cruising class is the first yacht of its kind below 500 gross tonnes (GT) to comply with IMO Tier-III regulations. Two advanced MTU 16V 4000 M65L “green” powerplants propel this fast cruising yacht, allowing for a top speed in excess of 23 knots and a transoceanic range of 3,100 miles at 11 knots.
In true Heesen tradition, speed comes from smart naval architecture rather than brute horsepower, with the refinement of the hull design delivering efficiency gains of 12%. These have been made possible through streamlining the underwater body, keeping transom depth to a minimum, and creating propeller tunnels to raise the propellers and reduce the overall draft to just 2.15 metres.
Heesen’s CCO, Friso Visser, said that the combination of speed and shallow draft makes the design ideal for cruising in shallow coastal waters such as the Bahamas and the crystal clear waters of the Mediterranean, thereby making it a compelling proposition for many yacht owners.
