Hotel Santa Caterina is reopening its doors on 28th May 2021, ready to welcome visitors who want to experience an authentic taste of the Amalfi Coast.
Italy’s 34-mile long Amalfi Coast has been luring travellers for what seems like forever due in no small part to its extraordinary scenery and a healthy dose of Italian luxury, enough to excite even the most discerning traveller.
The Amalfi Coast is a UNESCO World Heritage site and is one of those rare places that oozes romance at every twist and turn. It is such a beautiful location that it was chosen to be the island of Themyscira in the 2017 blockbuster movie Wonder Woman.
The winding roads along this gorgeous stretch of coastline on the Tyrrhenian Sea play host to charming coastal towns, 100ft high cliffs, countless beaches and some extraordinary hotels, which brings us nicely onto the subject of this travel feature.
Set on the edge of a cliff is one such hotel, an exquisite family-owned property by the name of Hotel Caterina. In this travel feature, we highlight why this hotel deserves to be on your list of places to visit in 2021.
Hotel Santa Catarina to launch their new villas
Hotel Santa Caterina will be expanding their offering to include two new villas later this year. Recently acquired by the Gambardella family, the “Villas Della Marchesa” offer a breathtaking view of the Mediterranean, immersed in the peaceful setting of the Amalfi lemon groves.
The villas have been renovated, enhancing the extraordinary beauty of the natural environment in which they are immersed whilst still preserving the buildings’ original structure—more information to follow in the coming weeks.
Get a taste of the Amalfi before you travel – Claridge’s collaboration
Hotel Santa Caterina has partnered with a legendary London hotel, Claridge’s, to bring a taste of the Amalfi coast to Mayfair. The hotel chefs have collaborated on a Mediterranean menu available at the Claridge’s Bar Terrace until the end of September.
Diners will be able to experience Hotel Santa Catarina’s delicious flavours; dishes range from the hotel’s classic white truffle pizza to homemade spaghettini with lemon cream sauce and red prawns. All of which arrive on beautiful Hotel Santa Catarina hand-painted crockery.
Glicine is awarded a Michelin star two years running
The Hotel Santa Caterina’s flagship restaurant, Glicine, has been awarded a Michelin star two years in a row. In charge of the restaurant is Chef Giuseppe Stanzione, who took the helm in 2019. Chef Giuseppe is passionate about local cuisine, and this can clearly be seen in his menu, which is a combination of Mediterranean flavours and elegance.
Guests at Glicine can expect a wide variety of dishes, including the classic seafood Tagliatelle and for those with a sweet tooth, how about some Amalfi-style Souffle made with locally produced lemons?
The restaurant also offers a comprehensive wine list containing, as expected, fine Italian wines, but, in addition to this, there is a wide selection of international wines on offer. Even choosing a wine has been made easier thanks to the Hotel Santa Caterina’s dedicated Sommelier.
Direct sea access
Hotel Santa Caterina offers guests panoramic views and exclusive access to the iconic sweeping azure-blue Amalfi Coast via two private elevators carved into the coastal rocks. In addition to this, there is the private beach club where they can soak up the Mediterranean sun and swim in the heated pool.
It is uniquely the only Leading Hotel close to Amalfi town that benefits from this direct sea access. For those wishing to take the scenic route down to the sea, there is a beautiful path that takes guests through citrus groves and lush gardens to the sea-level facilities, including a solarium, fitness centre, café/bar and outdoor restaurant.
The Amalfi Gold – Lemon wellness
The Amalfi Coast is famous for its lemons, which are some of the biggest in the world. The hotel’s love for lemons transpires through its cuisine and wellness offering, with the ‘Amalfi Gold’ wellness treatment. The Mediterranean aromatherapy uses essential oils from the local lemons, flowers and plants of the Amalfi to help relax, soothe and cleanse the body.
