Reena Patel Checks In At The Party Island’s, Hip, Hot and Happening New Luxury Hotel.
Without a shadow of a doubt Ushuaïa Tower is already soaring with success since it recently opened in May. Russian oligarchs, Arab playboys, the elite Mumbai set, Stateside and Euro revellers all come together in style to chill, or party within this VIP, convivial and cosmopolitan playing ground.
The brand spanking new adults-only hedonistic haven resides on the beachfront, right next door to its sister property, Ushuaïa Beach Hotel, in Ibiza’s Playa d’en Bossa.
The décor of the entrance to the ultra-modern hotel’s foyer will be sure to strike your attention; a bright red carpet with dazzling bright lights, juxtaposed with black and ‘wow factor’ red furnishings, all direct you to a clear glass automatic door that leads you out to the funky poolside area.
Rooms and suites are equally cutting edge and exclusively designed with yet some more of that avant-garde and bold approach. We stayed in the ‘Fashion Victim Suite’; a futuristic pod, washed in white with a round bed with circular mirrors on the ceiling, movie-star-style vanity mirror with large lights around it, plus a freestanding shower in the centre of the room. Another highlight feature is the jacuzzi tub on the private outdoor terrace, where you can soak off a heavy night, or relax after a hot day in the sun, whilst voyeuristically getting a piece of the action taking place below at the pool, or down on the beach.
The infinity edge pool allows you to view panoramic views of the Mediterranean Sea and the poolside Oyster Bar & Infinity Cocktail Bar gives you quick access to a gourmet lunch. Oysters, seafood and caviar are served alongside perennial favourites such as burgers, fries and salads. Neighbouring Ushuaïa Beach Club is a definite must for lunch, as it faces out on to the sandy beach and serves up an exciting menu of freshly grilled items and salads.
During the early part of each day, Ushuaïa Tower is a serene spot to relax but come the early afternoon, the music starts up with mellow beats and it’s totally rocking by night. In just a short space of time, Ushuaïa has become synonymous with ultimate music and day-to-night entertainment. Both hotels are already isle-renowned for hosting fabulous pool parties under the Balearic sunshine and we highly recommend getting involved. The Ushuaïa Club next door features an captivating poolside stage and hosts the most exclusive nights with the world’s best DJs spinning the decks from David Guetta to Avicii, Swedish House Mafia and hotel resident DJs, Ants (where you will find plenty of the art form of this insect seemingly crawling around the walls and ceilings as a contemporary homage to their namesake).
For dinner, steak lovers can salivate at the word Montauk – the name of the steakhouse that is in fact the first one in the whole of the island. This new concept for the Ibiza dining scene has been brought over by head chef Richard Turner (who is shareholder of Hawskmoor reputable steakhouse chain in London). Expect prime cuts (using Spanish, British and other high grade aged beef), grilled classics (including fish and vegetarian options), perfectly prepared sides and an incredible selection of desserts that will allure you into wanting to order one of each (if you have any space left after your main course, that is).
First, choose your cut – prime rib, porterhouse (t-bone), rib eye, New York strip, or fillet from Montauk’s very own salt chamber, hand-built from Himalayan salt bricks. The salt, together with a combination of temperature, humidity and light, results in a totally unique, sweet and flavoursome dry-aged meat.
A novel idea, Montauk then invites diners to choose your preferred knife to cut your meat with – Japanese, English, Spanish, German, you decide. Loyal, repeat visitors get to have their initials engraved on their cutter of choice and stored for use upon their next visit. Next, pick your sauce (if any): peppercorn, béarnaise, or hollandaise with anchovy and chilli, or blue cheese. Super side orders include steamed green asparagus, triple cooked chips and Montauk’s Temptation – a creamy gratin-style dish of potatoes, onion, pickled sprats, breadcrumbs and cream. The popcorn sundae, sticky toffee pudding and peanut butter shortbread are high on my dessert hit list.
The hotel also has the first and only roof-terrace lounge in Playa d’en Bossa, aptly called Up, as you can see low-flying aeroplanes coming in and out of nearby Ibiza airport. Sip on sophisticated cocktails, sample the sushi, salad and burger menu and view fabulous sunsets, or you can just see what’s happening on the party island from high up above. After all, this is the place for people watching… in short, Ushuaïa is totally where it’s at this summer.
