What makes a great golf course? Well, INFINITUM seems to hold all the cards right now. Home to three outstanding golf courses, each with its distinct design and layout, it has again cemented its name as Europe’s Best At The World Travel Awards.
Luxurious Magazine’s Sabi Phagura had the chance to take a visit to the premium golf, lifestyle and real-estate resort on Spain’s Costa Dorada.
Situated just 10 kilometres from the coastal city of Tarragona and an hour from Barcelona, the INFINITUM Beach Club enjoys a beautiful setting with the Mediterranean Sea as its backdrop. And as the ‘beach club’ in the name suggests, this is a lifestyle destination which you can turn into your home should you have a bob or two.
The exclusive homes in front of the Mediterranean Sea have been built to address all your needs, from peace and quiet, direct access to the beach, a plethora of eateries and bars and, of course, the mint condition three golf courses.
The Golf Courses
The world of golf can seem elitist and daunting to those who haven’t dabbled in this sport. Now I’m no elite golf player, but I can and do appreciate the vast greenery and the landscape of one, which does wonders for my well-being. And at INFINITUM, I felt just as relaxed, and my senses heightened surrounded by pine forests and olive fields. I was delighted to learn INFINITUM is set within the region’s Sequila Major ecosystem, a wetland made of reeds, willows and poplars snaking around the lakes.
Whether you’re a keen golfer or not, INFINITUM has something for everyone. But let us shine a spotlight on the golf offerings first. Home to two 18-hole-championship golf courses (The Lakes, a signature Greg Norman, and The Hills designed by Alfonso Vidaor ), this resort recently played host to the DP World Tour’s Qualifying School Final Stage. The Lakes feature numerous water hazards and bunkers, which adds to the excitement of having a great day of golf.
What makes INFINITUM that extra special, in my opinion, is the 9-hole Ruins Course (also designed by Greg Norman) which runs alongside Roman architectural remains. Sitting on the site’s highest point, golfers can draw inspiration from its fantastic views.
To help golfers dial in their game, onsite facilities include a range featuring Topracer technology. And if you’ve ever pondered about dabbling into the sport as an amateur, INFINITUM has practice facilities to kick-start a new passion.
Relaxation facilities
Whether you play golf or not, relaxation is just an important part of the INFINITUM Beach Club’s lifestyle. With eight swimming pools, you really can have your pick of where to lie horizontally.
You can hide tranquillity behind towering pine trees lining the golden sands of Playa Llarga beach or head to the adult-only Signe pool if you’re seeking sanctuary from children. Not that mini-adults are neglected. The Family Area is dedicated to children as parents or guardians can sit back in the comfort of the Beach Club’s in-pool loungers.
The new Pura pool was my favourite after the Signe pool, where I was able to curl up with a book from a hammock, complete with courtesy water service.
Food
We all know that Mediterranean cuisine is hailed as one of the healthiest, and there is an abundance of that here, matched with equally delightful views. The Flamma Beach Foodhouse restaurant delivers local gastronomy in the form of grilled meats and fish and towering sea views in abundance, so one trip is not enough. But don’t let this place seduce you so much that you miss out on other dishes on site. Pura pool serves healthy salad dishes, while Gusto, the poolside bar, serves up tasty tapas reserved for Beach Club guests.
Those who can’t get enough of golf may want to pop off to the Hills Clubhouse or The Lakehouse Bistrot, where they can sit on the panoramic terrace with views over the golf course. I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed this setting not only to dine from but also to have a quiet moment or two to collect my thoughts when I had some downtime.
Awards
My visit to INFINITUM was a mere few weeks before the World Travel Awards in October last year. The awards acknowledge, reward and celebrate excellence across all sectors of the global travel and tourism industry and offer the highest level of recognition by winning the industry’s ultimate ‘gold standard’. The last awards ceremony took place in October, where the INFINITUM Beach Club joined a plethora of winners that were announced at the new Hilton Mallorca Galatzo, Spain.
I caught up with Agustín García Pascual, INFINITUM Chief Business Officer, whom I had the pleasure of meeting after the awards who said, “That our Beach Club has won this most prestigious award is great news for INFINITUM as we continue to build for the future at one of Europe’s most exciting resorts. The variety on offer, with our Beach Club’s eight swimming pools for both adults and children, makes it the perfect setting for everyone to enjoy with stunning views out and over the Mediterranean Sea.”
Pumped up by the award as well as passion and drive, the owners of INFINITUM aim to grow. The original vision for this setting, including the selection of BREEAM-certified, high-quality homes, was that it would provide a holiday destination or second home to owners.
But increasingly, these homeowners are turning these properties which come in a range of sizes and styles, into their main residential abode. Within walking distance of everything you need to live in luxury on Catalonia’s beautiful coast, it’s not difficult to see why.
