A new in-gallery boutique at the InterContinental Danang forms part of the BENSLEY Outsider Gallery. It showcases a limited-edition fine jewellery collection featuring The Fan Cut™, Kate McCoy’s signature diamond cut.
InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort has launched a new retail offering that features handcrafted jewellery by the acclaimed Australian designer Kate McCoy. These original collections are showcased within the resort’s celebrated BENSLEY Outsider Gallery (below) and feature limited edition and one-of-a-kind designs with Kate’s new signature diamond cut, The Fan Cut™.
“We are delighted to introduce Kate McCoy’s exquisite jewellery to our discerning guests. At InterContinental Danang, we strive to create experiences that cannot be found anywhere else. So, to have one of the world’s leading jewellery designers craft a completely new diamond cut exclusively for our resort is a real honour. I am sure that our guests will love Kate’s designs,” said Seif Hamdy, General Manager, InterContinental Danang.
Kate McCoy is renowned for her Art Deco and nature-inspired designs. She has previously collaborated with Bill Bensley to develop the Nature’s Treasury Collection, raising important funds for conservation through the Wildlife Alliance.
The Fan Cut™ was born when she was invited to design a collection for InterContinental Danang. Creatively bridging her love of nature, Art Deco design and Vietnamese culture, she distilled these concepts down to a distinctive shape to embody her own elegant expression.
“As a designer, I love to create meaningful things, to tell a story and to connect with people. I also love to travel and find great inspiration from other cultures, particularly the fusion of East and West. The very word ‘intercontinental’ means ‘between the continents’, and the fan shape is the perfect embodiment of these influences,” said Kate McCoy.
The fan is both an ancient and modern shape that transcends time. It served as a practical and decorative object marking social status in ancient Egypt, dynastic China, and the royal courts of Europe and came to represent the elegance of the Art Deco era.
The fan is also a symbol of prosperity in Vietnamese culture and an important national icon. Traditionally crafted by hand in Thach That village, Ha Tay province, and decorated with natural elements such as flowers and birds, Vietnam’s famous paper fans led to the creation of the fan dance, which was performed in the imperial palaces of the Tran and Nguyen dynasties.
The new Kate McCoy collection offers guests and art collectors the opportunity to purchase unique pieces of jewellery, each accompanied by a certificate of authenticity that details the diamond grade, cut, karat weight, and gold karat and gram weight of the piece. Kate will continue to develop new limited-edition designs using The Fan Cut™.
Each piece of jewellery uses natural diamonds and rare coloured gemstones, hand-selected by Kate and set in 18-karat white, rose, and yellow gold. Prices range from USD 2,500 to USD 20,000 and above. Customised pieces are also available.
The launch of the Kate McCoy jewellery collection is the latest in a series of exciting new additions at InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort, including the Mi Sol Spa, a brand-new lobby and Club InterContinental Lounge, and four 705-square metre Four-Bedroom Pool Villas.
The resort, which spans four levels – Heaven, Sky, Earth and Sea – was recently named the best hotel in Vietnam for the second consecutive year in the DestinAsian Readers’ Choice Awards.
