Now that we know a little more about you, tell us about the video. Who thought up the idea and how did you make it!
Jinx Chin: Since my college days, I have always been interested in shooting videos and editing, and along with my college friends, we even made a rather bad short horror movie! With the new DSLR cameras that are out now, the video capability, combined with the large sensors and great lenses result in video images that are in HD and in terms of colour saturation, look just like what you see in movie theatres. So when I got one of these cameras, I was eager to shoot even more video.
Along with some friends of mine, we started exploring new tricks that could be done with the latest video editing programs out there. The idea of cloning myself on the screen was rather interesting to me, so I decided to do it, but I thought, why not have fun with the effect as well, so that’s when I decided to perform that song for the video. It was really exciting to plan the different scenes and to make sure they all worked with one another to form a coherent composite in the final video.
What’s the ultimate goal of the Jinx Chin, haven’t met you yet video?
Jinx Chin: Well, I just thought it would be a blast to do a video with five “Jinxes” singing Acappella, upload it, and have my friends check it out. I never realized that it would garner any more attention than that, but I’m certainly thrilled that others enjoy it too. People have been very kind with their comments and this is very encouraging.
I hope to make more videos like this to continue to build some “Jinx” awareness. Just for the heck of it, I am planning on performing some live gigs around KL for the adrenalin rush and to just get back to performing in front of an audience again, so it would be good if the audience already kind of knows about me.
What else are you currently working on
Jinx Chin: I am writing more songs from different genres to ultimately sell to publishers in different parts of the world. I have also started to write songs for the Chinese market. Since I know not a word of Chinese, I actually have some very talented lyricist friends with whom I am collaborating.
My ultimate goal is to write good music and songs that resonate with whoever listens to them. I hope to get my songs to some artists in the US and see how it goes from there. In fact, I am planning a trip to Hollywood in March to meet some music-industry people there. I’m really looking forward to that. Oh, and don’t worry! I am probably going to do another “Five Jinxes” video soon!
When you eventually decide to hang up your Mic, what would you like to have achieved?
Jinx Chin: I want the whole world to sing my songs!! I think it would be awesome to perform one of my songs in front of a large audience, then when it comes to the chorus, I would just point the mic to the audience and they would sing the chorus…..the chorus of the song that I wrote. Now that would be grand, wouldn’t it? Heck, it doesn’t even have to be me performing it. Just as long as it is one of my songs!
Besides making/writing music and starring in videos, how do you spend your free time?
Jinx Chin: Besides music, I also love the art of magic, which is why I am eager to meet Manuel Llaser, since he is one of the very best out there. If you check in youtube, you may find some old videos of me in college doing some crazy magic tricks! I refuse to look at the apparent ordinariness of our world and I always try to see the little “magic” moments that life shows us every day, but sometimes we are too caught up in our own little world to even notice them.
Other than that, I enjoy hanging out with good friends and having great conversations on anything and everything. I enjoy the sharing of experiences as we make our way through this interesting journey called life. Just slap me if I’m sounding too philosophical!
Jinx, thanks again for taking the time out to talk to us, how can people follow what you are doing and get in contact with you?
Jinx Chin: Thank you very much for featuring me in your fine online magazine! It certainly is a privilege! I have a website with some of my songs online and some other videos that I have done and also a blog where most of my meandering thoughts on music are posted. Please leave me a message or comment. I’d love to hear from your readers!
