The much anticipated new designs of Jean Schlumberger for Tiffany & Co.’s high jewellery collection was unveiled at Tiffany & Co.’s Pavilion store in Kuala Lumper recently.
Whimsical and ornate, the designs of this new collection are taken from Tiffany & Co.’s archives, and it pays homages to one of the most feted jewellery designers in the modern age. Jean Schlumberger joined Tiffany & Co. back in 1956 and began what must have been one of the most prolific periods of his creative life.
Hailing from a well-to-do textile manufacturing family in France, Schlumberger started his designing career with Parisian couturier Elsa Schiaparelli before moving to New York and turning to jewellery design.
Inspired by sea creatures and the natural world as well as design accoutrements for textiles and fabrics, the unique and distinctive creations of Schlumberger for Tiffany & Co. has won the hearts of style icons such as the Duchess of Windsor, Babe Paley, Greta Garbo, Mona von Bismarck, Gloria Guinness, Gloria Vanderbilt, Audrey Hepburn and Jacqueline Kennedy among others.
In the latest collection, Schlumberger’s iconic “Bird on a Rock” (main image) has been reproduced with different coloured gemstones such as Aquamarine, Tanzanite, Green Tourmaline and Morganite.
Other eye-catching pieces of the collection include the Cooper bracelet, Nest earrings, Ribbon ring and Shell brooch.
Each piece is a demonstration of Schlumberger’s expert use of coloured gemstones with Tiffany diamonds and results in something not only beautiful to look at and wear but also to covet and lust after.
However, the centrepiece of this outstanding collection is the platinum Baguette Fringe necklace which has 240 diamonds and weighs a total of 85 carats. Made from baguette and brilliant-cut white diamonds, this stunner is a contrast soft curvy circles with angular lines making it both feminine and bold simultaneously. An elegant blue sapphire clasp adds a dash of colour to this unforgettable necklace.
