The Peninsula has released a new film called Kam’s Journey. It is the latest instalment of its global “Peninsula Perspectives” brand campaign, which honours the lives and histories of its employees and the cities it calls home.
It feels good to write about something heartwarming, and that’s precisely what Kam’s Journey is. It is a short film that has given a hardworking employee, who doesn’t have the advantages that many reading this do, incredible memories that will last a lifetime and shows that despite all the negativity in today’s world, kindness and positivity are still very much evident.
The Kam’s Journey film is an uplifting celebration of the transcendent nature of global travel. The star of the film is Kam Tsui, a tenured team member at the hotel’s flagship in Hong Kong who works as one of the hotel’s Peninsula Pages.
As a Page for the past decade, Kam has welcomed thousands of international visitors to the hotel and to his home city. Though he can neither hear nor speak, his warm smile, personality, and lively eyes have made a lasting impression on travellers worldwide.
Kam was given the opportunity to experience something beyond his wildest dreams: travelling to the dozen locales that The Peninsula calls home and exploring these incredible destinations through his senses.
Kam’s extraordinary adventure brought him to some of the globe’s most captivating cities, where he participated in iconic, time-honoured traditions—from moving his body through the meditative, flowing motions of Tai Chi in Beijing to playing baseball in Chicago to touching the vibrations of traditional Thai Gong chimes in Bangkok.
Whether visiting the ravishing peak of Mt. Fuji in Japan or magnificent monuments like the Eiffel Tower and Big Ben in Europe, what Kam found most meaningful about his trip was being embraced like family everywhere he travelled. His epic journey has allowed him to understand, in a new way, what it means to experience The Peninsula’s unforgettable hospitality.
“Interacting with others from different places can be challenging, especially as a deaf person,” said Kam at the end of his journey. “But everywhere I travelled, I was met with sincere smiles and expressive body language and invited to share experiences that made me feel welcomed and included. I have learned the world is a beautiful place, filled with warm-hearted people.”
