Rémy Martin is a cognac in a class of its own and believes that the amber drink tastes better in company
It’s no surprise then that it chose to team up with the awesome Manchester House for a glorious Rémy Martin pop-up event. Sipping the smooth drink, while overlooking the city on a surprisingly sunny evening in September, was the perfect cocktail for a time well spent.
The luxe Lounge Tower 12 was turned into a foodie and a spirit connoisseurs dream for the launch. A table laden with all the glorious foods you can think of including slabs of chocolate, nuts, grapes, cheese, bread and much more was ever inviting as we sipped Rémy Martin cocktails before learning about the history behind the drink.
The story behind Rémy Martin has been one of nothing but ambition since 1724. Led by dedicated men and women spanning almost 300 years, this small piece of French terroir has been turned into one of the world’s finest cognacs.
May, who has worked for the company for over 20 years, took us through a smell and taste sensation journey through base notes. It’s truly fascinating to pause and really stay in the moment when trying to figure out the smells and tastes of Remy Martin. It’s amazing how different the very same drink can smell from when held waist-high, to chest-high and finally bought up to just under the nose. The mind tries to figure out the flavours that come through at each stage. From cinnamon to nutty and to fig and honey, they all vie for your attention. And of course, pairing the drink as it slides smoothly down the throat with the aforementioned food, takes you on a different sensory journey yet again. For me, it was the creamy vanilla fudge that helped bring out the cognac’s extraordinary smooth taste in my mouth.
The Rémy Martin pop-up event is a great way for fans to learn more about their drink, from its history to pairing it with various foods. La Maison Rémy Martin is the private member’s club that flings open its doors annually via a pop-up event in Soho before travelling up north. Even though the pop-up event lasts for a short time, it doesn’t mean you can’t learn more about the drink throughout the year. Bartenders across the world are always happy to tell you more and of course, you can find out more via their website not to mention how to apply for a membership.
