French brand Lacoste and sport go hand-in-hand, thanks in no small part to its creator being one of the all-time great tennis players. The company is known for its elegant and practical fashion, and this trend continues with its AG-LT21 Ultra trainers.
Rene Lacoste was an innovator and inventor; he wanted the clothing and equipment he used to play sports to give him the edge. The clothing had to be light to help his on-court mobility; his theory was it would allow him to hit the ball harder. At the time, what he wanted wasn’t available, so being a man of many talents, he designed the clothing himself.
Even today, Lacoste are always looking for new ways to improve their products to benefit the wearers. This is the case with the Lacoste AG-LT21 Ultra trainer, worn by the top-ranked tennis player Daniel Medvedev. He launched the AG-LT21 at the 2021 Miami Open Tournament.
Renewing the brand’s historic commitment to top-level athletes, the AG-LT21’s design promotes agility, speed, and stability on the court, with dynamic technical qualities which allow for a combination of elegance and freedom of movement.
The woven mesh upper provides ideal breathability for players, while the double lacing system and padded collar ensure optimal support and comfort. With Goodyear rubber fitted on the outsole, the shoe allows for excellent grip on all surfaces and high abrasion resistance, satisfying the most demanding players.
Daniil Medvedev, also known as the ‘Bear’, wore the AG-LT21 Ultra for the opening round. The brand-new style of Lacoste footwear marks the return of the brand’s crocodile to tennis courts. It is an iconic silhouette as famous within the world of fashion as it is within the sporting world.
Lacoste is renewing and strengthening its historic commitment to top-level athletes and the production of high-performance footwear with ranges like the AG-LT21 Ultra. Featuring innovative designs to create stability, allow agility and promote speed for the wearer. The model combines elegance with freedom of movement.
A woven mesh upper provides ideal breathability for players. The trainers are Ultra-lightweight, construction of the AG-LT 21 Ultra also offers a glimpse of the inner cage. The tennis shoe features a double lacing system with a padded collar for comfort with optimal support. These features are based on technologies developed by Lacoste.
A lightweight PEBEX frame ensures stability and energy return, and DOW foam provides good rebound and cushioning to support all the movements. The outsole is fitted with Goodyear rubber for supreme grip on all surfaces. Its high resistance to abrasion echoes the KURIM support of the forefoot, which provides long-lasting protection.
Daniil Medvedev explains, “Even before trying the pair on, I enjoyed its design and the varied colour palette, which will allow me to change my style throughout the season. The look is new, different from what we are used to seeing on the courts. Just like any tennis player, I expect comfort as well as performance from my footwear, and I was seduced by the ease with which I was able to change direction while remaining very stable on the court.”
The AG-LT21 Ultra has a bold design with sculpted lines giving high-performance with a bold design embodied by sculptural lines to satisfy the most demanding players, both in terms of style and fluidity of movement.
I haven’t had the opportunity to wear a pair to confirm the thoughts of Medvedev, but I like the design. If a professional sportsperson wears them in a World Tournament, they must be good. The price is reasonable too for the materials and benefits you get.
