The Reasons Why Dublin 4’s Lansdowne Place is Attracting a Lot of Interest

Why Dublin 4's Lansdowne Place is Attracting a Lot of Interest

If you’re in the market for an urban dwelling in the heart of Dublin and have a few hundreds of thousands of euros to spare, you may just want to set your sights on Lansdowne Place. Located in the highly desirable Ballsbridge suburb, developer Chartered Land has just revealed The Shelbourne Collection – the final residential phase in Lansdowne Place.

Life for the ultra-high-end Lansdowne Place residential scheme, located on the corner of Lansdowne Road and Shelbourne Road, began in 2017. It’s been built on the former Trinity College Botanic Gardens site with a number of the original trees and shrubs still in situ, including the incredibly rare Strawberry tree, an emblem of the development.

The five other residential buildings (The Templeton, The Blake, The Burbidge, The Barrington and The Nicholson) preceded the latest launches, The Harvey and The Hutchins, now joining them.

Like most of the UK, Ireland is trying to plug the gap between the supply and demand of houses. And it’s hoped the latest collection will do just that – at least for home buyers looking for a premium home in the heart of a distinguished postal code.

Ballsbridge has been home to countless famous Dublin residents over the centuries, including the world-renowned local iron founder, Richard Turner. In recent months, Rod Stewart is reportedly the latest well-known figure to consider Lansdowne Place a home.

With prices starting from €800,000, these spacious homes range from 699 sq. ft. to 4,200 sq. Ft. They feature extra high ceilings, allow plentiful natural light through floor-to-ceiling windows and boast further indoor-outdoor space through the use of either a terrace or sunroom.

Rugby fans may be interested in splashing out for an upper-level apartment. Some look directly at the spectacular Aviva Stadium in all its glory. Home to the Irish National Rugby Team, the sporting ground (previously known as Lansdowne Road Stadium) is the oldest in Europe, having opened in 1870.

Hands down, the best view of it is from specific penthouses, which include wraparound terraces or private roof terraces. And, of course, you will be afforded unenviable views of the capital. You’ll also be able to get your bearings on Ballsbridge from a bird’s eye point of view.

The Grand Canal is to the north; the south takes you towards Donnybrook, while the west points you in the direction of Pembroke Road, Clyde Road, Elgin Road, and Herbert Park.

The Royal Dublin Society also has its grounds in a close vicinity area, while the bulk of Dublin’s embassies and many diplomatic residences are in the southern part of Ballsbridge.

Ballsbridge district
In addition to the above, the Shelbourne Collection is uniquely surrounded by the traditional elegance of Victorian residences as well as nature. But it wasn’t always like that. Ballsbridge was built from humble mud flats and marsh beginnings of the 1600s and had to be developed into a fashionable and thriving district it’s known today.

Nature holds a special place at Lansdowne Place because it stands on the former site of Trinity College’s Botanic Garden. Meticulous care has been taken to preserve as many wonderful specimens within the grounds.

The most unusual one is the Strawberry Tree, as briefly mentioned above. Listed in the Tree Register of Ireland as an exceptional specimen of a rare species, the Strawberry Tree’s history meant it was carefully preserved and nurtured throughout planning.

‘The Keepsake’, the signature sculpture greeting residents and visitors in the courtyard, curated by artist Rachel Joynt, was inspired by this elegant tree.

The Interiors
Stepping back inside the building, the interiors reflect the finest design by some of Ireland’s renowned interior specialists. Residents can expect more of a high-end hotel quality retailing and finishing touches. Cutom-designed handmade kitchens and wardrobes are the work of furniture makers and joiner O’Connors of Drumleck, Co. Louth.

Residents looking for inspiration to kit out their homes to put their mark on them may want to draw inspiration from the show homes. The interior schemes have been provided by a collection of luxury specialists, including The Interiors Project, Sara Cosgrove Design, Elk House Interiors and Hyde Interiors.

Amenities and Community
Although a capital city, Dublin is regarded more as a ‘parish,’ whereby you’ll always be greeted with a friendly and cheerful hello from someone you know or even a stranger. It was with this in mind that the developers emphasised creating a sense of community within a community.

Most know all too well how much human connection and interaction was missed and longed for during lockdown. But of course, as with anything, it’s the people who make it.

But to give residents a helping hand in forging new friendships within the community, Lansdowne Place has a range of amenities via the slick The Residents Club. Designed by global luxury interior specialists Goddard Littlefair and O’Mahony Pike Architects, the club is a purpose-built leisure facility spread across two floors.

Residents can enjoy access to a classically designed lounge, library, meeting room, intimate cinema room, private dining room with a separate prep kitchen, as well as a full-length terrace.

For resident’s health and well-being needs, the lower ground floor provides all you need for the mind, body and soul. It comprises a Thermal Suite equipped with a sauna and steam room, a fitness studio, individual treatment rooms and a private terrace. Secure private parking is located in the basement and accessible from street level.

Gemma Harrington, Head of Sales & Marketing at Lansdowne Place, said, “The release of The Shelbourne Collection is monumental in history for Lansdowne Place and presents the final opportunity to live at this exceptional development.

We have seen an incredible response to date, with multiple price records achieved, which is a testament to the quality on offer. This final set of properties are some of our finest and offer the perfect blend of Irish quality and a 5-star international lifestyle.”
