The Majestic has added another feather to its cap by entering the world of children’s books! For its first literary foray, this palace hotel on the Croisette in Cannes plays a starring role in “Have You Seen Lulu”, a book that takes its young readers on a journey that follows the adventures of the world’s most regal cat – a story that is comforting, amusing educational and full of humanity.
Culture and “art de vivre” are a perfect combination, and the Hôtel Barrière Le Majestic has demonstrated this time and time again, hosting concerts and photographic exhibitions and providing the backdrop for numerous films and TV series.
However, out of all the many things it has accomplished and done, it has never placed its does fully in the literary world, that is, until now. This has changed thanks to a story in which the Palace-hotel at 10, La Croisette, in Cannes, becomes an elegant setting for a children’s book.
Titled “Have you seen Lulu?” the book is aimed at children aged 7 and 8, and its 80 pages describe the initial adventures of Lulu, the Majestic’s aristocratic, food-loving and mischievous cat who is also somewhat lazy and just a tiny bit temperamental! In other words, a typical tomcat!
From the day he first stepped foot in this 5-star hotel in Cannes, Lulu has embraced his “palatial” life, showing his satisfaction with a great deal of contented purring! This happy disposition also stems from his friendship with Max, the hotel manager’s son.
It is this young lad who, arriving at the hotel on his usual Wednesday to meet up with Lulu, realises that his feline friend has disappeared. He searches high and low for him in the hotel, seeking the help of the bar manager, the receptionist, the concierge… and even the head chef as he looks for clues, culminating in a fortuitous meeting with Hanane, a young, pretty guest staying at the hotel.
The story provides an opportunity to visit this legendary property, learn the intricacies of hotel vocabulary, gain a better understanding of how a luxury hotel operates and discover its many professions, ranging from the housekeeper to the pastry chef.
The book’s educational aspect takes nothing away from what is a hugely fun and entertaining read and one that includes a rich yet light-hearted vocabulary, funny yet serious topics and endearing and kind-hearted characters.
On an equal par with the entertaining story is the quality of the printed version itself, featuring varied and stylish colour illustrations that pay homage to the elegant decor that provided its inspiration.
