LM: Who is your clientele, and do you have any celebrity members?
SG: The membership consists of a diverse range of professions, from financiers in the City (less than an hour from the Club) to entrepreneurs on our doorstep, and Wentworth Club has always been a place where leaders of industry and entertainment have gathered.
We also welcome a whole host of celebrities at Wentworth Club in May for the Pro-Am tournament ahead of the BMW PGA Championship. Last year, Niall Horan from One Direction joined us and attracted a somewhat different crowd from what we are used to! It was great to see new, younger golf fans arriving in such high numbers and we are looking forward to welcoming many more this year for what will be the inaugural tournament in the prestigious Rolex Series.
LM: Who is your money on to win this year’s BMW PGA Championship?
SG: The competition is fierce every year, so it’s a difficult one to call. It was fantastic to see Chris Wood, an Englishman, claim victory last year on home soil. One of the past winners, Byeong Hun-An is now a Global Ambassador for Wentworth and regards the Club as a second home. Rory McIlroy, champion in 2014, returns to Wentworth Club for this year’s tournament and you can never rule him out.
As mentioned, we are particularly looking forward to this year’s Championship as it marks the commencement of the Rolex Series, the premium category of tournaments on the European Tour’s international schedule. The BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth is the first of eight events, each with an impressive minimum prize fund of US$7 million. I am anticipating a strong field, together with some fantastic crowds to mark the occasion, and I look forward to a closely fought battle in May.
LM: How did the association with Ten Trinity Square come about, and what benefits will this offer your members?
SG: We are tremendously fortunate with the amazing partners we have through our owners Reignwood Group; Ten Trinity Square being one of them. As part of a debenture package at Wentworth Club, members will have exclusive access to Ten Trinity Square’s private members’ club. Ultimately, the vision is for our members to experience the very best in luxury living, both in the beautiful Surrey countryside and the heart of the City.
LM: Are you partnered with any other brands?
SG: From a golfing perspective, Wentworth Club houses a TaylorMade Performance Lab, a state-of-the-art testing suite and workshop where specialised custom-fitting of clubs is done on a one-to-one basis with a Wentworth Professional. This is the only facility of its kind in England and meets elite Tour standards, giving our members the ultimate opportunity to invest time in their game. We are also partnered with Reignwood’s Pine Valley and the Princeville at Hanalei, two first class global golfing venues.
Our most significant partnership is with the Ten Trinity Square private members’ club. Set in a magnificent building, once home to the Port of London Authority, the Club will include two restaurants, private dining, meeting rooms, a cigar lounge, bar, and billiards room. This will be a fantastic location for our debenture members to enjoy the City.
Earlier this year, Ten Trinity Square announced a best-in-class partnership with Four Seasons Hotels & Resorts and Château Latour; a relationship that will ultimately extend to Wentworth Club. In addition, we continue to align with other Reignwood brands, including Voss Water and Vita Coco, particularly at the BMW PGA Championship and other milestone events.
LM: What are your favourite luxury destinations?
SG: For me, London is the best city in the world and there are not many locations more luxurious than Ten Trinity Square. Outside the UK, the Four Seasons in Los Angeles is a personal favourite.
