London Art Antiques & Interiors Fair returns to ExCeL in the New Year after a successful launch in January 2017.
A destination for those searching for that perfect piece to add to their collection or simply looking for a statement piece; as well as those on the hunt for items to decorate their home – the Fair will also host an impressive line-up of talks by leading experts in the field of art, antiques and interiors.
Showcasing a new feature exhibition this year, and to commemorate 100 years since the end of World War One, well known British collector, Maurice Collins will be presenting his personal collection of over fifty wartime propaganda posters from World War One. The exhibition will be featured at the fair for the first viewing of his 2018 UK tour. The posters cover the role of women both in the forces as well as jobs they took over from the men who were fighting on the frontline. It also covers the political movement of voting rights for women and how the suffragettes agreed to hold their action until the end of the war.
As well as his exhibition, Maurice Collins will also be leading a talk ‘Poster Persuaders from WW1’, which will explore a time where there was no television or radio and the importance of the written word in persuasion – which got men in the millions to enlist in the war effort.
Collins’ talk will explore how the written word assisted the food that was eaten, which was frugal and limited, how posters raised money to fund the war and the financial promises being made, how it provided comfort to families at home and finally how the posters helped the returning wounded and those that needed employment.
Maurice Collins says: “This talk will explore how the use of the written word in World War One propaganda was executed so successfully – and how the words worked as no other campaign before or after has.
“I’m very pleased to be exhibiting at London Art Antiques & Interiors Fair for its second year – it’s a great destination for the avid collector, seasoned shopper or first-time buyer, and with such an eclectic range on offer, there is something to suit all tastes.”
Mary Claire Boyd, Fair Director of London Art Antiques & Interiors Fair says: “We’re delighted that Maurice Collins will be exhibiting with us this year. The Fair is not only a destination to shop but also offers the opportunity to learn from experts in the field of art, antiques and interiors – and he is a great addition to the fantastic line up of speakers we have at this year’s London Art Antiques & Interiors Fair.
Maurice Collins will be delivering his talk ‘Poster Persuaders from WW1’ at London Art Antiques & Interiors Fair on Saturday 13th January and Sunday 14th January, time is to be confirmed.
